    Bi-products

    Posted: 28 Jul 2021 07:29 AM PDT

This isn't a post about balance. There have been many discussions about specialists and how some are overpowered, while others are useless. We all seem to agree the we love the flexibility of Anno's mechanics. ;-)

This post is about something different. I'd like to have the... lore of the game explained, in this particular case regarding the bi-products that many of the specialists supply. I love the game play and have enough suspention of disbelief, that I can easily swallow all of the unrealistic elements. This post is meant solely for entertainment purposes.

Some of them are pretty obivous. For example Wild Frontiersman Steen provides beef. It's almost weird that normally the hunters don't bring in meet, only furs. Do they throw it away already at the forest?

Steven MacLeod causes Sand Mines and Clay Pits to produce Gold Ore. This also rounds reasonable or at least plausible. After all gold ore was usually obtained from rivers by leaching out the banks. I guess it can be stretched to the sea shore, right?

Optometrist Otto produces Glass from Spectacle Factories. Glass is an ingredient for the production, so we might assume that Otto managed to think of a way to recycle the glass that is cut off and otherwise wasted and thus some of it can be reused again.

Captain Moby, Old Dog of the Sea is kinda tricky, he gives Gold Bars from fisheries. Accorting the the expedition trait he's a pirate. Does that mean he gets the gold by robbing ships? But the fishing boats operate in my own harbour. Does he rob my own ships?!

But then there's Dario the Mechanical Engineer who offers Pocket Watches and Gramophones from Bicycle Factories. Bicycles use Iron and Rubber, Watches use Glass and Gold, Gramophones - Wood and Brass. There's completely no overlap, so how does he do that? Where does all this stuff come from and how?

Prof. Ram Devi is of course the most extreme case. He works in a Lightbulb Factory and while he produces lightbulb, he also produces everything else. Either he's a magician or a racketeer.

I'd be happy to hear your ideas how these specialists could work. Not just the ones that I mentioned, but any other ones that come to your mind. Are you able to plausibly explain how the bi-products are created?

AMD FSR makes smoke effect above factories look weird?

    Posted: 27 Jul 2021 05:35 PM PDT

I tried out the FSR feature to see if I could get a bit better performance, while I didn't gain many FPS, my graphics card seems to run a lot cooler now (and the fans are a lot more silent now) so I wanted to keep this setting on anyway. However, the smoke above areas with lots of industry buildings is now gone, it only appears if I zoom close to the factories and even then, it seems very buggy. The smoke effect gets cut off at the right and lower part of the screen and is a lot less visible in general. I sadly can't post Screenshots right now.

Is there a way to fix this?

    Just thinking ...

    1602 - 1503 - 1701 - 1404 - 2070 - 2205 - .... Anno 1800 is the 7th.

Let's say Anno the 8th around 2023 with Asia involved (pure speculation, maybe fantasy).

Because 9.9.2025 only one can be released: Anno IX the 9th :)
