All AIs suddenly declare war on me without any reason starting with von Malching with reputation 100! This has to be a bug... More details in comments.

Could someone tell me wich benchmark - tool that is?

Imperialism by SSI in 1997 was one of my favorite childhood games. Is Anno the modern day successor to that game? I'm new.

    Posted: 30 Jan 2022 11:51 AM PST

To preface: I game on a budget, so I pick my purchases carefully. Hence why I haven't bought Anno already.

Hi r/Anno. I know little about your game, only seeing it in Linus Tech Tip videos. A completely unrelated reddit post mentioned "Europeans love Anno and there's no other game like it". That made me realize that maybe Anno could scratch a gaming itch I haven't felt scratched for 20years.

In Imperialism I adored all the settler era economics and trading of goods. Having the 'feel' of Warcraft 1 or Might and Magic, but being rooted in reality gave Imperialism a special quality I can't put my finger on. None of Civilization, Age of Empires, or other similar games have been able to capture my attention like that.

PS- On a completely unrelated note: if anyone remembers a very old RTS called 'Gene Wars' and can point me towards a working version that was another favorite game lost to time.

What's your opinion on Calla Lily, Of The Desert Bloom?

    Posted: 30 Jan 2022 05:47 AM PST

I feel that she's pretty weak for a legendary specialist. -10% field reduction is great, but she has no other modifiers outside of providing indigo fertility. How impactful is the -10% field reduction as opposed to going straight for a productivity modifier?

    Industrial city

    Posted: 29 Jan 2022 01:17 PM PST

I would like to see a new season dedicated to war and espionage in anno1800.

    Posted: 29 Jan 2022 05:27 PM PST

One of my favourite parts of anno 1404 was definitely the war and espionage mechanics - it was interesting seeing how much war became a game of logistics and cost. Naval combat is okay but overall military options are lacking. It would nice to see an expansion to war in general. Having new ways to engage opponents with things like spies or foot troops would be really cool and i think the game has a empty space for it.

I would love to see an expansion to defences, combat, and then the return of espionage.

Campaign bugged at “Toast to the Future”?

Can you edit your save files in Anno 1800?

    Posted: 29 Jan 2022 06:59 PM PST

Hi, I have a little problem with my current game. It is my first sandbox game in which I already have spent 30 hours. Now I noticed that the victory conditions are 3 monuments, which means as far as I know, 3 world exhibition. The difficulty is, that I have set the world to small, so I have not enough space + resources for three of them. Is it possible to edit the save files to set the victory goals to only one monument?

Also, where can you see the conditions in a running game?

    Docklands question

    Posted: 29 Jan 2022 04:08 PM PST

I constantly hear people saying Docklands trivialises the game. Apart from the benefits of the large storage and piers/loading docks allowing a more efficient cargo hub I'm a little lost. The huge delay between visits and the time to level Docklands contracts up means you can just make the items faster than waiting for a Docklands yeah?

What am I missing? How do you level up Docklands so fast?

[Campaign Spoilers] Finally found how to get Fire and Rescue & Supply Chain Management

    Posted: 29 Jan 2022 07:38 AM PST

Playing the campaign on Hard I unexpectedly discovered how to unlock these two achievements, which are infamous because they seem like a total enigma to get access to them.

I'll keep details brief and won't say everything that happens but spoilers ahead. Obv.

It started by not destroying the Pyphorian fleet that attacks Bright Sands right away. When the fleet arrived I threw everything I had available at it, a fleet I had spent several hours throughout the game building was turned to cinders by the Pyphorains' own massive armada and their flame cannons.

I prepared for but underestimated how mighty that warfleet was.

However, it was this inability to destroy the Pyphorian fleet right away that allowed the means to these two elusive achievements to reveal themselves.

Each achievement requires completing two missions provided by characters in the campaign. And all of them revolve around the Pyphorians playing their hand and revealing themselves. They'll star triggering when the cultists arrive and vanquishing them means their

As mentioned I did these on Expert but I don't think there is a difficulty requirement to get them to fire.

    Supply Chain Management

The description of this achievement reads "Defend all royal supply ships and destroy all supplies of your enemy". Both of these missions are designed to help the player with items and supplies to break that really big set of boats.

    1. Take down three Pyphorian monitors that patrol the southern edge of the Old World.
      Quest giver: Aarhant
    2. Escort a ship Archie offers to your harbour
      Quest giver: Archibald Blake

Both missions involve fighting those Pyphorian monitor ships. So if still only you have a sailing fleet (like I did), your best bet is to let those monitors come to you for that first mission. You also only have half an hour to do it from the moment Aarhant gives you the task. But for the second mission there is no time limit.

The Pyphorians also might try again to attack the Queen. But that's like the least of your worries given where she's moored.

    Fire and Rescue

This one's not so easy. Lots of people ask "rescue who?" and "where are all the arsonists?" and if you were like me you might have initially thought both of these were to take place in the streets of Bright Sands.

    Turns out, not really.

Both of these will be given by Hannah. For that first one, arsonists will appear in Ditchwater and you'll have to find them all as they set your island ablaze just like they did with Bright Sands. When I did this mission though, I only had a minute and a half to find all five of them. Like every Find Person mission in the series, a bigger city is going to make things a lot more difficult for you. Other than that, It's just like when they appear in La Isla and start torching everything.

This was my Ditchwater at the time so yeah. Thinking outside the box is advised.

The second mission will appear some time later. Hannah will remark that some people managed to escape the inferno in Bright Sands and there will be a crowd that emerges from the back of the island. Sneak past the Pyphorian patrols around that particular spot, pick them up and bring them home to your warehouse.

Boom, done. I did this with a gunboat.

BTW since I've only had one try, it might have been a bug or not, but I did get a situation where one of the spotter ships sat right where everyone needed to be picked up. As long as you can pick up the people before the ship opens fire though, you're golden it seems. And there's a lovely moment as a reward if you manage this.

Two of the most elusive challenges in the core game and it turns out getting access to them means not outplaying the Pyphorians like a lot of us probably have.

    The easiest hard settings

    Posted: 29 Jan 2022 01:56 PM PST

    The easiest hard settings

Please find enclosed the easiest hard settings, i.e. the settings that just barely meet the " hard" criterion, and that come together in what I consider to be the easiest configuration.

I am happy about hints how to make it even simpler.

From my point of view it is very important not to save on the positions income and influence and to ensure "high" or "medium" here, so as not to be left behind too quickly and also not to get in the way of the game fun (e.g. zoos) too much.

I think it's okay for my game experience that this makes the islands quite small, which makes for an interesting game experience. Anyway, Crown Falls is not affected by this, which can be seen as a cheat in a way.

In the beginning, money is the biggest difficulty, later this is replaced in particular by the fact that "civil" solutions are hard to obtain, because money for bribes and shares is scarce and few tasks can be done for influence. Also, of course, war is hard, though I struggle even on two stars against heavily defended harbors in the endgame.

I have to say, though, that I've never tried the military odds very hard on this difficulty, so it may be (too?) hard for that.

    Having a bug where I cant write symbols like !, ", §

    Posted: 29 Jan 2022 07:39 AM PST

    Basically like the title says:

I cant name my cities, trade routes etc. with these special letters. It isn't coming from my keyboard, I can write everything normal in for example word, its just Anno. It is really annoying coming back to Anno 1800 after some months and being unable to name your trade routes correctly.

I was just wondering if anybody else has this problem?

Is there a way to skip the storylines of an expansion in 1800 after you've cleared it in a previous save?

    Posted: 29 Jan 2022 03:43 PM PST

One thing holding me back from picking up 1800 again with a new save are the storylines in the arctic and crown falls. They bore me to tears after all the times I've done them. I know it's short, but it's just not fun anymore. Especially arctic.

Is there an option to toggle the storyline off? A mod perhaps? This would be such a great option for season 4. After all, we've done these enough that it should let up skip on subsequent playthroughs.

    [Campaign] Repair crane quest

    Posted: 29 Jan 2022 02:00 PM PST

I got the game a couple of days ago and I am trying to pass the mission to build the repair crane. I am trying in the old world with the docklands and in the new world with the normal repair crane. But it doesn't work. I built the docklands repair crane before I got that quest. Could that be the problem? Does anybody have a fix?

    Houses getting abandoned

    Posted: 29 Jan 2022 06:49 AM PST

I'm sure this has been discussed but I had a question I couldn't find answered. If I have to have farm houses close to a market place, do I have to put multiple market places around one city? Not next to each other but a market place every x many squares away from each other? If so, is there a mod that shows the influence of the marketplace or do I just base it on the road color?

First play-through of Anno so I'm not sure of these little details. I built up a workforce but suddenly my farmhouses started becoming abandoned and I wasn't sure why.
