So we know that warehouses don't work as intended

So we know that warehouses don't work as intended

If you check this post here, it explains thoroughly how, when built in the intuitive order of suppliers - producers - warehouse, the entire production chain loses productivity due to how carts work. The OP suggests a workaround; place warehouses as far away from producers and isolate suppliers from the main road connection. This, however, creates problems of its own which is apparent in the screenshot below.

    https://preview.redd.it/rpexuuds5of41.jpg?width=1433&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4f4f1732ec783654d57603507239be0262a2062b

Now you have a production chain working at its full capacity but taking up double the space than normally required. I don't see a good way to use the space in between without hindering the already established production chain. So now I'm left with two options; 1. use the space for suppliers of another production chain and make sure the storage of its end product never gets full in order to prevent intermediate goods getting delivered to warehouses and taking up loading ramp space 2. just do it the normal way and connect less producers per warehouse.

If I go by the normal way I get the feeling warehouses don't even work at half the rate of what's stated in the wiki. It says a single small warehouse can take up to 24 resources per minute, which means it should be able to handle 12 workcloth shops, but in practice it can barely handle 5. But then if I try to maximize warehouse efficiency I have to waste a lot of space. What do you guys think is the better solution?

EDIT: This post is incorrect and misleading. You can read the comments for accurate information, but I'll post my comment here so people don't have to search for it:

Wow, okay this is really interesting. Apparently I was wrong and the devs thought this all out. With some testing I found out that each production building has its own maximum warehouse distance set according to the maximum amount of goods it can store. So, for example, a cart from a pig farm takes 4 minutes to complete a delivery and come back when going to a warehouse furthest away, because the farm can store up to 4 pigs and it takes a minute to produce each. A workercloth factory has half the distance of a pig farm, because it takes 2 minutes for it to reach full storage (30 seconds each with storage space of 4). So you guys are right. As long as a cart can unload within the time limit, no matter how long the waiting line or how far away (or close) the warehouse a building operates at 100% efficiency. This means that a single small warehouse can process up to 12 pig farms at 2 minute distance back and forth, 18 if all farms at 1 minute distance or less. So it's actually better to place producers as close to the warehouse as possible, as it should be. I was way off about the OP, but I'm glad that I wrote it because now I properly understand the system. Also, now I know I don't have to upgrade warehouses in most cases.

Thank you everyone for giving feedback to this post and helping me understand the game system properly.

Why is Old Nate's harbor limited to selling 10 tons of each item?

    Posted: 08 Feb 2020 01:07 AM PST

Is it a bug or what is the thinking behind it? All the other traders have a limit of 150t and they have more valuable items.

Has anyone experienced this? Not sure if this is a bug.

quests for items - is it worth it?

    Posted: 07 Feb 2020 04:03 PM PST

    hi everyone,

i have about a 100 hours in a save, but i never did any quests the npcs give me. is it worth doing all those quests for items? so far i am only getting kind of worthless stuff, but i assume they will get better once i have done more quests...

so, is it worth the time investment? or should i focus on other ways to get items?
