Manhattan, 1931. Really reminds me of the way we build in anno!

Crap, 1800 just ruined my so far favourite game, 1404 :(

    Posted: 16 Dec 2019 05:10 AM PST

I loved and still love 1404, so I just started a new game after sinking a lot of hours into 1800. For the first time in a decade since it came out, 1404 felt... just old. I'm a sad peasant :(

Bring the active pause to the game already!

    Posted: 15 Dec 2019 06:49 PM PST

This game needs an active pause, period. It's the most complicated city builder that requires A LOT of thought and many simultaneous actions, and every single other city builder has a pause :

City Skylines has one Banished has one Tropico 6 has one Frostpunk - which by the way is a survival (!!!) city builder - has one

But not Anno, where you are simultaneously developing 12 Islands and the whole trade network around them whilst also conducting war on four separate screens! I have absolutely no idea why this feature is still not in the game, its absolutely baffling and should he implemented ASAP.

    • but people play starcraft 2 without active pause!

This is not equivalent to playing starcraft 2. This is equivalent to playing four simultaneous games of Starcaft 2 whilst building and controlling three bases in each one - oh, and the minimap shows only one, so you have no idea what is happening in the other games!

    • it's very hard to code in an active pause and will take a lot of effort

Coding an active pause is one of the easiest things to do in the current state of the game, it has (with some limitations) even been done by the modders! The game already has different speed settings, so crating another one with zero/close to zero speed is a fairly straightforward task.

-Anno is too easy anyway, you don't need it

On normal difficulty - sure. But if you want to playing anything above normal, then acting quick will give you A LOT of advantage - more captured islands, better military and so on. And not only does it require a lot of thinking, but also a lot of quick and efficient actions.

    • It's just the way it's meant to be played©

No, it's the way it was very inconveniently designed to be played. I'm fine with the developers making it optional where you select at the start of your game whether you want a pause or not. Total War has done it where you have active battle pause on all difficulties apart from Legendary, and I see no reason for Anno not to have it as well.

    • People in multilayer don't use it, so it shouldn't exist in singleplayer

Singleplayer users of Anno (which are the majority of the player base) should not suffer from the limitations of the multiplayer. I understand why there is not pause when you are playing against live opponents, but that has got nothing to do with paying on your own with the AI.

Not to mention that you have absolutely no time to look at your beautiful city (and all the hard work the graphics team has done) because so many things need to be done ASAP. Oh you want to use that awesome first person view feature? Too bad, two islands are on fire, one is running low on furs, a trade route has an issue, and one of your ships has just been sunk - enjoy your free time.

To sum it up, there is absolutely NO REASON for Anno not having an active pause, it makes everybody's life worse and it is the feature this game needs the most!

    Royal Taxes??!

    Posted: 16 Dec 2019 03:46 AM PST

So I was making my city as usual in a game and this time I was seeing how i could go if I house no more population then 1000 of each class. Now I found out pretty soon that royal taxes actually begin at 1000, so being exactly on the dot got me slapped with the first tier of the penalty, by the time I had realised I had just finished fully satisfying my 50 worker houses and my 100 farmer houses and I checked my balance to see -196 royal taxes... I checked the wiki to learn that royal taxes start at 1000 at 1% and increase by 1% at every 125 population interval beyond 1000 until a maximum of 40%.

Have you noted what's wrong with what I just said? I had 196 deducted in royal taxes, i only had 1000 workers, and 1000 farmers meaning 1% of my income was -196, which insinuates I was generating 19600 in income from 50 worker households and 100 farmer households??! In reality i was gaining 800 from farmer (+8 per house with needs satisfied) and and +1400 from worker households (+28 per house without beer on low income) 1% of 2200 is not 196, it's 22!

    - Is the wiki wrong?
    - Did royal taxes get buffed and they haven't updated it?
    - Does it include income from tourism? (even if it still doesn't justify the extremely high number)
    - Why does it have to start at 1000 instead of 1001 so i can have an even number of houses for my layout without having to demolish one house just because I dared to fully satisfy all homes?
    - Can Blubyte just scrap royal taxes altogether and instead punish slumming by having a mechanic where citizens will riot as a result of mass unemployment?
    - Am I just bad at math?

    Bugs in the trial version?

    Posted: 16 Dec 2019 07:29 AM PST

I'm bad at managing my economy I need some advice.

    Posted: 16 Dec 2019 03:22 AM PST

I actually usually do OK at the farmer and worker stages of the game. It's the further in I get that I stat to have real trouble. When I first got to artisans I was rolling along but oddly by the time I got to engineers I was almost always in the red. I'm not quite sure what I'm doing wrong. Maybe my expenses are too high. But without at least a couple of expensive things like commuter piers I'm not sure how to get enough people. I also have a pretty big fleet but that also seems necessary. I'm only playing on medium at the moment. I'm surprised that my economy is so weak. My trade routes are also getting really complicated with making and using some things on one islands then trying to ship a small amount to a second island.

I can't be the only one with these troubles. I'd love to hear how someone who used to have this problem improved their late game economy.

Soundtrack not part of the deluxe edition?

    Posted: 16 Dec 2019 04:53 AM PST

So I was hoping that with the deluxe edition I will get all the soundtracks the game has but apparently it doesn't include the dlcs. Basegame music is super nice and I'm listening to it in my car for like atleast 3 months now.

Does anyone know how to get the other dlc soundtracks (old mates theme and the beautiful violin theme from the passage)?

    Possible to undo war? Tricks?

    Posted: 15 Dec 2019 09:13 PM PST

    As the title implies-

If lost another main story file to failing to watch a growtchy AI's decaying relationship. It's just way too much to deal with being at war with one of them, particularly while advancing the story.

Is there any feasible way to undo having gone to war?

what is the issue with anno 2205?

    Posted: 15 Dec 2019 05:18 PM PST

Hey guys the anno games are on sale and i'm kinda picking up the newer ones. i'm wondering what the problem with anno 2205 is?

I heard some people don't like it because it's a one and done game with barely any replay ability. Well i'm fine with that if it has a neat campaign, but i'm wondering what else is wrong with it? How does it differ from a regular anno game?

Will seasons get added into Anno 1800 with the addition of the passage and the technology that includes? Would you like for seasons to get added? Why or why not?

    Posted: 15 Dec 2019 01:30 PM PST

I personally would love to see seasons implemented and it seems like the ground work is already laid down for it to be a possibility. What are yalls thoughts?

    Anno 1800 or 2070 first?

    Posted: 15 Dec 2019 12:11 PM PST

So I'm new to anno and wondering which game to play first? Thematically I love the idea 2070 and really would like to play it. But I heard anno 1800 is great for new comers to the series.

Which game do you guys think I should play first? Does the newer features in 1800 make it really apparent your playing a older game, if I start with 1800 then go play 2070? And how similar are the games in general?

Also wondering if there is any other games similar to anno that focus heavily on the economic side? How about the megacorp expansions for stellaris does that add enough depth? The only other game I can really think of that has a economic slant is reccetear (which I highly recommend!)

    This cave again

    Posted: 15 Dec 2019 02:02 PM PST

This is a follow up on this thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/anno/comments/e9p7hz/arctic_cave_who_lives_there/

A few days ago I found this cave in the arctic north and created a post here, because to me it looks like there is a secret inside.

    The mysterious cave

I've found out a few more things:

    • Moving the camera inside - doesn't work, the camera position slides upwards as soon as I get really near to the entrance
    • When I move the camera as close as possible to the cave entrance and try to have a look at the back right wall of the cave, I see something which might be part of a painting
    • I can't walk inside:
When I look into the cave and press ctrl+shift+r to switch to first person mode I get pushed back to the nearest one of my own islands outside the northern continent. A small text message shows up on the upper right of the screen saying "Easter Egg found", as in this screenshot which I've taken immediately after pressing crtl+shift+r near the entrance of the cave:

    Displayed message: EasterEgg Found

    • Switching to first person mode on any other point on the northern continent doesn't work, too. Here are some places I've tried:
      • where HMS Styx and HMS Hades got stranded
      • at the Inuit's settlement
      • on the ice shields surrounding the northern continent
      • several other places where I flew with my airship
    • I wanted to re-read the Diary of Mr. Faithful because I think there was some hint to a cave in there, but all but the first page of it is strangely missing in my warehouse.

Did anyone of you find out what's inside this cave? I'm really curious!

    Maybe I'm doing something wrong?

    DLC Expeditions don't appear

    Posted: 15 Dec 2019 01:53 PM PST

    Hey everyone,

so I have this really weird problem where the DLC don't seem to be in my savegame. I recently got the season pass and went into my old save and was prompted with the popup if I want to enable the new DLCs or not. So far so good.

But now I started a new game with all of them enabled and have just reached Engineers with 1.7k Artisans, but have gotten neither the Sunken Treasures nor The Passage expedition quests. I only have 2 other expeditions in the queue so I don't think I'm at the max, if such a thing exists. Any idea what I could do to trigger the quests or to check if the DLCs might be disabled in my savegames?
