[Trivia] Anno 1800 specialists and their real-world equivalents (a full list!)

    Posted: 19 Oct 2020 09:10 AM PDT

I've been playing through 1800 again recently, and while hunting legendary specialists I noticed that some of the game data has development names for them listed, which often point to the specialists being based on people or items that existed in the 19th or early-20th centuries, or in some cases references to movies, Youtubers or characters from earlier Anno games. I love how Anno 1800 is quite a hard game!

    Posted: 19 Oct 2020 01:18 AM PDT

Anno was sort of a game where I didn't know if I would get it or not. I saw Anno 1800 as a ''solved'' game. Even from the get go I saw Anno 1800 as an intrinsically boring game due to all the production is ''solved''. Once you learn 2 grain farms - 1 mill - 2 bakeries. There would be no challenge.

But booooyy, this game is somehow stressfull and relaxing at the same time. I literally had my perfect setup empire crumble under linen deliveries being harassed causing massive money loss.

The trade unions, harbormaster, and town halls are genius. The characters and items in this game are brilliant, they give such an additional depth and options to tinker and organize your economy. Which, depending on the rolls and depending on the money situation, can have you penny pinching or spending your last dime on an actor.

I actually feel like I am hiring specialists, and they make my game feel more immersive.

Balancing the production chains, money, the islands, the trade routes, ships, characters, items, quests, needs, happiness, riots, fires, buildings, ornaments...

It's just such relaxing yet hard busywork! Having played Anno games since 1701, I have to say this installment is not only my favorite one yet, it is my favorite by faar!

1305 Easteregg in DevBlog for Game Update 9

    Posted: 19 Oct 2020 09:28 AM PDT

I know that this probably doesn't mean anything, but i was just reading the GU9-Blog and found a peculiar number. They are most likely just trolling, but it's interesting at least.

Your mouse will be grateful for the 1.305 average clicks we saved you (note: this is not a scientific number).

    https://anno-union.com/devblog-game-update-9/#menu-item-11225:~:text=Your%20mouse%20will%20be%20grateful%20for,this%20is%20not%20a%20scientific%20number

You can find this in the German version of the article as well…

Auch eure Maus wird euch dankbar sein für die durchschnittlich 1305 Klicks, die wir euch auf diesem Wege ersparen (Anmerkung: diese Nummer wurde nicht empirisch errechnet).

    https://anno-union.com/de/devblog-game-update-9/#menu-item-11251:~:text=Auch%20eure%20Maus%20wird%20euch%20dankbar,diese%20Nummer%20wurde%20nicht%20empirisch%20errechnet

Could be a reference to a new ANNO 1305, but it's quite unlikely.

How do I build with beauty/ornaments in mind better? [Anno 1800]

    Posted: 19 Oct 2020 05:28 AM PDT

Hey y'all, new fairly new to Anno series and city builders in general.

As the title says; how do that thing I asked? It just isn't something I can get my head 'round in planning and expansion.

So far I do love the game, and watch Takarazuka as well as browse the wiki for layouts, but still struggle to build with both efficiency AND beauty and space to add things like ornaments.

Might be a silly question but yeah, would appreciate any advice!

    Anarchist in savegame?

    Posted: 19 Oct 2020 02:31 AM PDT

Really wanting the art book and the soundtrack, I bought the "Deluxe" package yesterday for a couple of euros. Money well spent 😍

The package also included the Anarchist DLC - the only one I didn't have yet as anarchy is not really my thing lol
But as is was included anyway, I thought I'd give it a try.

Starting Anno 1800, I got the pop-up thanking me for the purchase, and if I wanted to start a new game with the Anarchist. I said no, as I already have two games going.

Usually, when starting a savegame for the first time after buying a DLC, it asks me if I want to activate it in the savegame. This time, it didn't ask me that. So my current existing games do not have the Anarchist in it.

Is that normal? Do you need to start a new game to add the new content (whatever that content is)?

How can I stop becoming a maniacal tyrant? (1800)

    Posted: 18 Oct 2020 02:22 PM PDT

Every time I get artisans in 1800 I start buying island shares and then I have a good economy relative to the other islands of around 20 then I start using more and more propaganda, transfer all my heavy industry to a second island full of workers and I can never be bothered to start getting the artisan items. Should I just push through and tank out whatever happens with the farming and factory's? Should I use less propaganda? Currently I have the 100% chance to root because of overuse of propaganda and whilst I'm not worried about my main island as they're all very happy however I'm worried about the factory island as I dont give them anything. I'm on the normal settings with princess quing, willie wobblesock and bente jorgensen and I have trade agreements with all of them and an alliance with quing. In sure bente didnt like me buying 2 parts of her island though.

Is it possible to change the size of the UI in Anno 1800?

    Posted: 18 Oct 2020 01:20 PM PDT

I'm playing Anno 1800 on my couch and the UI is literally unreadable while sitting comfortably. I have to learn forward and squint my eyes to make out what the text on the screen says. Is it possible to make the UI bigger by changing some ini file or perhaps through an addon?

    Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Will this game come to steam? Mainly regarding regional pricing.

    Posted: 18 Oct 2020 02:52 PM PDT

Both Epic and UPlay Store have horrible regional pricing and is stupid crazy expensive for me. On the other hand steam has really good regional pricing, so I have been wanting to play this game for a year now, but I haven't heard any news or information if it's coming to steam.

Will it or I will have to find other means of playing the game?
