Anno 1800 crashes everytime I change graphics settings

    Posted: 10 Oct 2019 04:26 AM PDT

I can live with that, since the settings do apply when I start the game again but its quite annoying. Am I the only one and does someone know a solution? Im playing with Uplay+

Several bugs I've encountered as well as some minor annoyances that need to addressed.

    Posted: 09 Oct 2019 03:30 PM PDT

I've been meaning to start writing minor bugs and discrepancies down as I play so that I can post them on here to see if this could get Ubisoft to make some changes. I'd normally ignore these things in a game, but I love Anno 1800 and I'd like to get involved. I'll list the bugs in descending order, from game-breaking to minor annoyances to just thoughts on game design.

    1. Artisan resident quests awarding sheet music appearing in the middle of the ocean.
How come this is still a thing? Every now and then, a quest will appear in the middle of the ocean(usually in the New World) from an Artisan, promising to award great sheet music items for my Museum/Zoo/BGarden. I'd really like to own those items, but even though I've figured out how to accept those quests(with the help of this community), I still don't know wether or not it's actually possible to collect the reward? I've tried several times but failed to deliver on the objectives, but the reward does not appear neither in my ship's inventory nor as flotsam anywhere near the initial quest giver. I know this has been an issue for a while now, can someone fix it pls?
    2. Worker's dialogue icons linger on the map after delivering an associated Mercer quest.
You know the little dialogue text on black background you get when you accept/deliver a quest? Well, when you do the ones where you either help Mercer's citizens or Mercer himself, the portrait of his citizens lingers on the map, even though when you click on it, there's no dialogue to see. It's minor, but it's annoying as hell and, I assume, easy to fix.
    3. Zoological expedition rewards are disproportionately skewed towards Sunken Treasures DLC content.
Ever since the Sunken Treasures expansion came out, most of the Zoological Expedition rewards I've gotten were from that expansion's loot table. I get so excited about getting the 3-Skull missions cuz I really want to complete the Snowflakes or Extinct Species set, but all I get are Goblin Sharks and those little bloated-belly eels. This is especially funny considering that the only other reward I'm getting from Zoo-missions, apart from the Sunken Treasures content, are Pelicans, which are also water-themed. While we're on this subject, how come so many animals in this game are ocean-dwellers? There's like 10 types of dolphin to inhabit my Zoo with, which makes it feel more like an aquarium that has a tiny obligatory terrestrial section lol.
    4. A Sperm Whale has nothing in common with a Whale Shark.
Getting into the minor annoyances section of this post now. How come the Animal item called "Sperm Whale" has an icon depicting a Whale Shark? Even the description tooltip describes a Sperm Whale, yet the model in the actual zoo module is that of a Whale Shark. They're wildly different species! One's a mammal and the other's a fish!
    5. Big Bertha/Big Betty.
One of the higher-quality Military Ship shield items has in its tooltip: "Reduced Damage from Big Bertha". I don't know what a big Bertha is, maybe it's something from the campaign, which I haven't played, but I would assume, the that item actually protects from damage dealt by the Big Betty defensive turret. Easy to fix, methinks, unless I'm missing something.
    6. Can we please get an item that allows us to destroy resource nodes?
      Getting into suggestions now.
Clay Pits can be annoying as fuck. They're not that big a problem for city design in Old World/Cape Trelawney, but in the New World, if you're trying to design a pretty city not centered around production(I know that I'm among the very few who would aim to do so, but hey, to each his own), the limited space enables Clay Pits to have a huge impact on what you can or cannot do. I mean, historically, the Dutch have been able to reclaim large swathes of land from the sea. The Russians, Venetians and even Aztecs have managed to turn marshland or lagoons into islands. How come there isn't an item that would allow me to destroy a Clay Pit? Or an Oil Well? Or even a Mine if that's not asking too much.
    7. Embankments.
Can we please get more options in terms of decorating our ports? This has become an especially important thing for me with the introduction of Crown Falls. I'm not a great fan of how buildings look when they're placed on the very edge of the beach, so I've been covering those beach/urban area beaches with the Worker's-buildings-tab embankments(don't remember what they're called), but they automatically get trade-port style unattended cargo/ropes/spare ship parts on them, which doesn't gel that well with the urban-style embankments I, and I'm sure some others, would want to go for. The last Anno game I played at least had some port-monuments in it, why not here? I'd also love it if we could do something similar with river banks, but I assume that would be asking too much development-resource-wise.
    8. Cultural building's module models.
This has been talked about a lot. I looooved the introduction of the Botanical Gardens into the game, but the lack of variety in the module models is disheartening, to say the least. There are some awesome icons, which have no in-game representation at all? And there are some strange discrepancies to this that are just baffling. How come the humble Swamp Reed, or whatever it's called, gets a cool unique model but the Titan Arum gets a greenhouse? Furthermore, why is there no variety to the greenhouses? Even the Museum or the Zoo have different enclosures, why not the Botanical Gardens? When people first started talking about this, I didn't really care much for it, because there was still some great variety in the existing unique plant modules, but then I fished out a Summit of Atlantis out of the ocean, rushed to get it into my Museum and found, to my great disappointment, that this item had no unique model, despite its tooltip description? Come on!
    9. Why is the New World population Hispanic?
This is not a suggestion or a bug report, but this has been bothering me from the start and, since none of my friends play Anno, I've had noone to talk to about this, so I'm posting it here.
I'm not a 100% sure which nation the cultural style of the Old World is hinting at, but since the UK Victorian era is the most popular representative of that time, I'm assuming that Anno 1800 is suggesting that you're playing for the British. With that in mind, how come the population of the Old World is Hispanic? Strictly speaking, there are very few Spanish-speaking nations in the West Indies, which I assume the New World is representing. Most of the Spanish-speaking colonies were on the continent. Colonies that now make up the sovereign nations of South and Central America, along with Mexico in North America and a handful of nations in the Caribbean. If I'm not mistaken, out of the 12 or so sovereign Caribbean nations, only Cuba and the Dominican Republic have Spanish as their official language, courtesy of Spanish colonial rule. I guess you might as well throw Puerto Rico in there too. But the rest of the West Indies were Dutch, French and British, so you wouldn't find Obreros and Jornaleros there, much less people who say "Gracias" to you. So how come we deal with Hispanics in-game, rather than English-Creole accents like those of Jamaica/St. Lucia/St. Vincent or Grenada? Or French? Or Dutch?

    Over and out.

Whoa wait a sec... is this where all the Anno 1800 players hang out as opposed to the other sub?

Is there a mod to make Zoo/Museum/Botanical Garden effects global?

    Posted: 09 Oct 2019 04:23 PM PDT

Does placing decorations or trees near housing benefit them?

    Posted: 09 Oct 2019 06:18 PM PDT

Does it make any difference if you put them around housing, vs. clumping them in the middle of nowhere? Or is the effect the same regardless?
