Museum/Zoo/Garden design inspirations? :) Show off your beauties!

    Posted: 04 Jan 2020 10:20 AM PST

I'm curious how you guys are designing your gardens and all. I don't yet have access to many of the ornamental items so can't play around with it myself but I wouldn't mind some cool inspirations for when the time comes. And who doesn't like to show off their creations anyway?! :)

Noob question part two - attacking islands

    Posted: 04 Jan 2020 06:19 AM PST

For background started playing the game earlier this week. Amassed about 8 frigates and decided to siege an Ai in campaign mode. I didn't think much of it as the island had just been acquired but it had 2 cannon turrets and one gun torrent. I figured I stood a good chance. I lost 4 ships before realizing there was no way to win and at that point I couldn't escape with my fleet either because it was damaged too much. Does anyone have a good rule of thumb for ships to defense ratio just so I have a idea exactly how strong these static defenses are?

    PC Benchmark Questions

    Posted: 04 Jan 2020 07:00 AM PST

So i am looking to upgrade the components in my pc to be able to play anno 1800 at the highest settings possible. How ever i am limited with my budget, $1500. Can you guys tell me what cpu, gpu, and ram you have and what fps you get at 1440p ultra settings and very high settings? I am currently looking at the 3700x and sapphire nitro + 5700xt and 32gb ddr4 3200 ram. Not sure that's the best option though. Help!

Anno, why the hell do ALL ships stop just short of the one they are to escort?

    Posted: 03 Jan 2020 03:18 PM PST

Anno, why the hell do ALL ships stop just short of the one they are to escort?

Every time I get an escort quest.

No matter which ships I use.

They will ALWAYS stop just short, requiring me to manually move them a millimeter forward before the question will ask to activate.

It fucks me off so god damn much. The amount of missions I've failed because I've sent ships to escort and they've never got close enough to activate the mission whilst I'm busy doing other things somewhere else..

Anno 1404 never had this problem. Yet Anno 1800 has had it for as long as I can remember.

I have a suspicion it has something to do with the fact these ships now have an 'escorting' status rather than an 'idle ship' status and therefore will not activate the escort mission, but surely this is something Anno devs could have figured out and fixed by now..

    Editor for scenarios

    Posted: 04 Jan 2020 02:17 AM PST

It will be wonderful if developers can give us a tools to make our own scenarios. So much ideas in my own head. Or maybe some official mod support.

What you guys think? Can we upvote this, so developers can see it, if of-cause anybody is interested in it.

    Deleting an island?

    Posted: 03 Jan 2020 08:39 PM PST

Hey, if I delete my own harbor from and island, can I be rid of it?

In the campaign, I found that 1) I did not want prosperity. 2. It soaked up the last of my influence on an island I didn't ask for or need.

Ergo, can I delete ownership of an island? Prosperity, or otherwise?

I just realized that the choir singing "Streets Aflame" from Anno 1880 OST are speaking English and not Russian...

    Posted: 03 Jan 2020 05:30 PM PST

For some reason, all these times listening to the song playing in the background, I thought they were singing in Russian. My train of thought was probably something like: Labor rights /= capitalism = communism = Russia.

It was only then, when I listened to the song on YT while reading the lyrics in the comments that I realized how stupid I was. Even then, my smart-ass was thinking the lyrics where just translated from Russian. It took me a few moments to finally connect the dots with each other...

So yeah, I hope you enjoyed reading my big brain time story :D

[Mod] Legendary Traders v1.0 - Get any item you want

[Mod] Legendary Traders v1.0 - Get any item you want

    https://preview.redd.it/e0a4fjb7dn841.png?width=1280&format=png&auto=webp&s=ebb8c57798fddd052c3f5fb4af1ed9276a720b91

Hey guys, i know a lot of you really want an "Item Spawner" for Anno 1800. Unfortunately, that is not within my abilities, however i have the next best thing: Legendary Traders!

All three Old World traders now always offer 12 items and all of them are Epic or Legendary quality. You can get any item in the game like this, all it takes is some deep pockets and some re-rolling if you're after something specific ;)

    Each trader sells specific items.

    Archibald Blake sells items for:

    • Ships
    • Sailing Ships
    • Steamships
    • Military Ships
    • Salvager
    • Airships

    Eli Bleakworth sells items for:

    • Trade Union
    • Town Hall
    • Harbourmaster's Office
    • Arctic Lodge

    Madame Kahina sells items for:

    • Museum
    • Zoo
    • Botanical Garden
    • Music Pavilion

Not all items are 'unlocked' when starting a new game. Reaching new resident tiers will unlock them and cause the traders to start selling them. At the start Madame Kahina offers almost no items at all, they will start appearing once you've reached the required resident tier.

Keep in mind that all these items are quite expensive to buy, and they will no longer offer any items below Epic quality. But if you're using this mod, you're probably also using a money cheat anyway ;)

    Issues:
the re-roll button overlaps the last row of items In the small window that shows a trader's items for sale. It doesn't hurt the functionality, just looks ugly. It's not an issue in the large trade window between harbour and ship.

[Mod Idea] Cannons and Mounted Guns

    Posted: 03 Jan 2020 12:26 PM PST

In my opinion, harbor defenses are currently really OP for what they cost.

So here's an idea I have, which I would like to create a mod for, but I'm still trying to figure out how to do that:

    **************************************

    1. Only mounted guns (not cannon towers) can be placed in your harbor. They must be connected to shore by quays in order to function.
    2. Cannon towers must be placed on land, and must be adjacent to the edge of your island (i.e. some of the tiles in their firing range must be water, and they must be adjacent to unbuildable squares).
      1. Making cannon towers land-based enables players to guard/control sea-lanes on any side of their island, not just the sides that have free beach on them, and also encourages the use of mounted guns (which become sort of pointless once you unlock cannon towers in the current game).
      2. In addition, it would be more consistent, since we can clearly see that pirates have land-based cannon towers, and restricting players to only having them in harbors is sort of arbitrary.
    3. Cannon towers would have a much greater chance to miss (that scales with range like with SoL cannons). It would also be harder for them to hit faster ships. The current way they work, which is a bit like giant sniper rifles, imo, is a big reason why they are OP.
      1. Chance to hit at max range would be something like 40%, scaling to 90% or so as the target gets closer.
      2. Also, there would be a minimum range, so these guns can't hit targets that are right next to the coast on which the cannon is mounted (or would have a high chance to miss). This would track with the way cannons worked historically in the 19th century, with there being only so much you could lower their elevation before a target could potentially get under their firing arc. Mounted guns would have no such limitation.
    4. Cannon towers would have 50% longer max range, but only a 45 to 60 degree firing arc, instead of 360 degrees.
    5. Cannon towers would not cost influence, but instead use weapons (which must be carted from a warehouse, along a road) to fire. I imagine that about 5 shots per ton of weapons would be appropriate. Possibly they would also need a crew of ~10 workers while firing (so like shipyards only need workers while a ship is actually under construction).
    6. Cannon towers would have their damage reduced to about 75% of vanilla damage, but would start using dynamite as well as weapons when unlocked, which would increase their damage to about 150% of vanilla damage.

    **************************************

Anyhow, I'm not sure if this is even possible, but I think it would improve the game immensely, and provide a big boost to the strategy aspect of the game. Let me know your thoughts, or if you think this is even doable.
