Anno I've built my own labyrinth (it can actually be solved), since the "labyrinth seed bed" is too small and offers no customisation. The palace in the background is being rebuilt after I gained more wings, still incomplete for now though.

Finally finished the campaign (Vanilla spoilers)

    Posted: 09 Apr 2020 04:41 AM PDT

I've got this game for a week now, and it has brought back so many memories of Anno 1404 (never played the Sci-Fi Anno). And I've just finished the campaign! Let's hope the DLC's I'm going to play now have many more exciting things for me to offer.

Wish me luck rebuilding Bright Sands and you good luck on building your biggest metropolis ever.

    How important is the DLC?

    Posted: 09 Apr 2020 11:38 AM PDT

I do not currently own Anno 1800, but I am looking to buy. I am looking for a casual experience, so I'm wondering if I should spring the extra $30 to buy the complete edition, or should I just go ahead and get the base game?

Anno Lore and Timeline in 1800

    Posted: 09 Apr 2020 05:29 AM PDT

    I'm a big 1404 fan, so I found cool references to 1404's lore in 1800 :

    - Bente Jorgensen the philanthropist, distant relative of Leif Jorgensen the cool boy

    - There's a specialist called Dr. Ali Al Zahir, probably a distant relative of the Grand Vizier Al Zahir

    - You can find Hassan Ben Sahid's treasure, and he's mentioned as "a legendary pirate"

    - The Pope is named Lucius 1st, just like the Cardinal from 1404

    - There's a specialist called Franck Von Lewenstein, probably a distant relative of Hildegard Von Lewenstein

    - There's a steel specialist called Henri Zanchi, probably a distant relative of the notorous Baronessa Constanza Zanchi

    - There's a chocolate specialist called Gennaro Garibaldi, probably a distant relative of Giacomo Garibaldi from Venice (best extension !)

    - There's of course the specialist Brother Hilarius, maker of Holy brewings, probably a distant brother of the best boy Hilarius and his awesome beer-making monastery (maybe his craft even comes from there)

    - The creator of tourism, Thomasina Langton, is probably a distant relative of Sir Gavin Langton the fancy boy

    - The celebrities' cook Marcel Forcas is probably a distant relative of Guy Forcas

    - Ermengilda Di Mercante is a trading expert, just like her ancestor Giovanni Di Mercante

    - Not related but I love the easter eggy specialist "Angela "Meg" Iver, The Polyvalent" lmao

Have you found more ? Let's try to find as many as possible !

Besides all of this, which obviously is no coincidence and basically draws a timeline that links Anno 1404 and 1800, I haven't played any of the other titles, in particular 1701, 1602 and 1503 (those before 1800 chronologically). So I'm talking to the long-time Annoholics there (or the retrogamers) : have you found links between 1800 and those games ? They come mostly from names of IA or specialists, sometimes places or expeditions easter eggs.

Gimme more ! I love Anno's simple yet cool lore.

Edit : some serious vocabulary issues (sorry, French boi here)

I don't understand Royal Taxes anymore

    Posted: 09 Apr 2020 01:37 AM PDT

Ever since I learnt about this mechanic, I used to think it was OK since I understood what was the goal of the devs when implementing it, I didn't like it very much but hey, what can you do (besides modding). I also figured out it was fairly simple to develop past farmers and workers while keeping those classes around the 1000 citizens mark.

But that's where the problem arises : I was OK to keep every class around 1000 inhabitants in my new game, but in order to unlock the higher needs of artisans and engineers, you need way more than 1000 ! For instance for them to need universities you need 1500 artisans, for engineers to need electricity you need 1750, for them to need banks - my objective since I've done this game for the O'Mara acheivement - you need 3000. But at such numbers the royal taxes kick in, which cut about 30% of your income, and yet you still need to produce a lot for these guys ! For instance the glasses factory alone cuts 1000$ in your income. I must add it would still be kinda OK, but since I have annoying AI in my game (only level 2, and I don't even wanna think about level 3), I gotta have a fleet : therefore I'm barely in the green. Also gotta say I've got easy conditions all around (income, etc.), so that I could test stuff, so the issue would be much worse on hard conditons.

Am I missing something, or is this worse design than I thought for this mechanic ? I'm two steps away from modding the game, and god knows I like my vanilla Anno games and wouldn't like to mod it.

    Best train layout

    Posted: 09 Apr 2020 01:56 AM PDT

I saw that if you Google 'best train layout Anno 1800', a multitude of answers come out: double tracks, triple tracks, single tracks with pieces of rail where the trains can pass each other, all these posts are from about a year ago.

I have been playing around with the trains a bit and my conclusion is that a single one way track that goes around the whole island, making a stop at each station (and come out the other side), both to refineries (if you have them) and power stations, seems to work best. Important is to give the trains no other option than to keep going, as sometimes they will make some wonky decisions.

This way you get very long trains, and all 5 of them will be in use at any time if the track is long enough. They will bring a huge load of oil, fill each Powerstation to a 100, and refill their holds in the refineries, and drop of whats left in the harbor, before beginning again.

When a next train arrives at a power station, the station still has 60-75 oil left, so there is a lot of growing space to make the track even longer, it should even work on Cape, although maybe you need two circles on cape.

For islands that solely produce oil and don't consume it the added benefit is that each train wil always bring the same amount of oil back into the harbor which makes it quite predictable. This should also be the case on an oil consuming island presuming the oil-levels in the harbor never reach 0.

I have not come across any downsides to this set-up.

    Any thoughts?

Population per production site - Anno 1800

    Posted: 09 Apr 2020 10:29 AM PDT

I was wondering if there is a list somewhere with how many people of each population tier one production building for consumables can support. I know there are calculators that work the other way around, so they tell me how many production buildings I need for any given population, but I'm looking for something simpler.
So what I'm looking for is a simple list like each schnapps distillery can supply X farmers or Y workers under normal conditions and so on. Any ideas where to look?

Does anyone has the same Issue or is it just me?

    Elise the Nose not working

    Posted: 09 Apr 2020 03:55 AM PDT

I have Elise the Nose in a trade union for champaign production. The island has a visitor pier. And yet it's been probably 10 visitors already and all of them are common/uncommon. Elise the Nose is legendary-only, so even if the chance of activating Elise pool is 40% or something (not sure how much), i should have at least gotten a couple legendary specialists by now. So it's obvious Elise is not working. Any idea what might be causing it? The champaign production and the public pier are at two sides of the island, do i need to move the trade union with Elise closer to the public pier?

    Coop questions

    Posted: 09 Apr 2020 02:44 AM PDT

I haven't tried multi player yet.

    1. If someone hosts a coop game can you still play after your friend jumps out? Or load it up and play some without them.

Or do all the starting players need to be in the game?

    1. If I have all the dlc but my friend just has vanilla version do you need to start the game with dlc disabled?

    Turning mods on and off.

    Posted: 08 Apr 2020 03:16 PM PDT

Hey guys I'm not too familiar with mods but am interested in trying them on a new sandbox game. I was wondering if there was a easy way to play with mods on a new game and turn them off when I choose another game? Like maybe one button to disable or enable them before each game instead of going in a deselecting all of them. Thanks.
