What do I use money for after midgame? (1800)

    Posted: 10 Aug 2020 02:50 AM PDT

After spending the first 40 hours hemorrhaging money and barely staying afloat, I started buying out stocks in the AI islands. Now I own full stocks in every large AI island and on top of investors I have about 100m in the bank and I'm making about 80k/minute. The income from the stocks alone completely covers my total maintenance. However, I'm out of influence to build ships and trade posts and to bribe my newspapers to stop telling my people that my peasants on the other side of the world aren't allowed to have cigars.

Should I buyout the AI islands to free up the influence points, sell my shares to the queen so the AIs don't hate me for taking every large and medium island, or just leave as is and try to grow more investors for influence?

Bente likes me, but Qing and Willy declare war on me every two hours because they're mad I own all their stuff, then immediately sign peace deals.

It's my first time playing an Anno game since 2070 years ago, and I'm having a blast.

People participating in the Technical Test of Land of Lions, is there anything you can tell us, that doesn't break the NDA?

    Flaw in my golden plan?

    Posted: 10 Aug 2020 04:59 AM PDT

I don't see this recommendation anywhere. In the mid/late game (3K+ investors), when money is not an issue anymore, this could make managing New World easier.

While you wait for specialists which will help you with gold, you can spend your excess cash on buying gold and gold ore from Eli and the pirates.

I am already using my coins partly for fulfilling all my gold demands - with three vendors, I can get about 21t gold/minute (7t/minute is the rate of fulfilling on easy, I have read) from gold/gold ore purchasing, which is equivalent to 50 gold mines or 5000 obreros across multiple New World islands. So you need less coffee and can produce more from all the free obreros as well. So if you want 50K investors, you only need to look for around 50 gold mines instead of a 100.

Of course, it will cost close to 2*(7*2750) + (7 * 1350) = nearly 50k coins/minute. But if you have the Engineer and Investor pop to demand this much gold, this is probably peanuts for you.

Unless there is a flaw in the plan?

PS - Bad pun fully intended ;)

Thinking about jumping back into Anno 1800, DLC questions

    Posted: 09 Aug 2020 03:44 PM PDT

I bought Anno 1800 at release, played a bit, and sort of drifted off since it felt a little undercooked and would really benefit from some patches and extra content. Expected to come back later.

Now it's later, and I'm looking at DLC options. Season 1 Pass seems a must-have, especially at just $12, but the Season 2 Pass seems a bit light on content, even compared to the Season 1 pass. Seat of Power and Bright Harvest seem more on the line of Botanica in adding just one or two buildings and features, as opposed to the beefier Sunken Treasures and especially Passage DLCs from Season 1.

I'm guessing Land of Lions is supposed to be the meaty expansion part of the pass? Just seems like $12 for Season 1 is a way, way better deal than $20 for Season 2, even if Land of Lions is on par with Passage.

Am I underselling Seat of Power and Bright Harvest? Is it just a building and some buffs (for SoP) and about the same for Bright Harvest? At least Botanica's buff building has some visually fancy features for design.

Also, is the game significantly deeper and more complex with all the DLC (so far) added in, or does it wind up feeling like window dressing? Just "drop the building, get the buff" or actual gameplay changes?

Best city layout for giant islands?

    Posted: 09 Aug 2020 01:25 PM PDT

Hello, What city layout do you guys use on giant Islands ?

Main goal is to get all 5 different kind of workers/civilians in one city as efficient as possible.

Would really appreciate some good designs :)
