Why I think items like the Superphosphate Fertilizer (+Productivity, +Modules) aren't as good as they seem

    Posted: 12 Sep 2020 06:04 AM PDT

    Hi there,

I have recently begun optimizing my farming layouts, and have looked for the best items to increase productivity of farms. The obvious choice is to go with items that increase productivity by a lot, such as the fertilizer mentioned above (+70% productivity).

But when taking the 35% increase in modules required you end up having the productivity of 1.7 farms in the space of 1.35 farms, which ends up with a "spacial productivity" of 1.7/1.35 = 1.26, a productivity increase of only 26% compared to the 70% mentioned in the item.

On the flipside, Horticulturalist Herman ends up being quite a bit better than the +20% of the description. Because he also decreases the number of modules required by 20%, you end up with a "spacial productivity" of 1.2/0.8 = 1.5, an increase of 50%

    Example:

Say you have 3 potato farms influenced by "Superphosphate Fertilizer". You chose the fertilizer, because it's 70% boost in productivity is greater than the 40% of the "Patented Steel Seed Drill". Every farm therefore has a productivity of 170%, for a total of 510% (170%x3).

But because you need 35% more modules per farm, you end up with a "total" of 105% more modules, which is more space than required for an additional farm.

If you then go down from the fertilizer to the steel seed drill, the initial 3 farms end up having a combined productivity of 3x140% = 420%. You can then fill the space cleared up by needing fewer modules per farm to build a 4th farm.

If placed outside the influence of the trade union, you end up with a total productivity of 420%+100% = 520%, or 10% higher compared to using the fertilizer, while using a bit less space (5% of a farm, or 4 tiles). If you place the fourth farm in the influence of the trade union you end up with a productivity of 560%, 50% higher than the fertilizer. Once again while needing 4 tiles less space.

Yes, that means that you need more workforce and have higher maintenance costs, but I think it's worth concidering, especially because the steel seed drill already reduces the required workforce by 50%.

If I buy Anno 1800 do I still need to be online to play?

    Posted: 12 Sep 2020 04:45 AM PDT

I haven't decided to take the plunge and put the money down for this game yet but I've been watching it since it came out. I decided to sign up for uplay's monthly subscription service and I love the game. I know life will eventually take over and I won't play as much. I want to know of i have to be connected to the internet in order to play the game if i have purchased it? Twice already uplay has claimed i was disconnected and closed the game on me with no save. Both times I was online with every other browser / app that I had. It would be very frustrating to pay $99 or $59 to have this kind of a bug.

    Need help about mods

    Posted: 12 Sep 2020 12:45 AM PDT

Hello, it is always awesome to see screenshots where people use mods so I wanted to try and play a game with mods but I am not sure how to do it. Is there a guide that explains step by step how to instal a mod (like spice it up for example).

Also do you have to manually update the mod every time a new version is out?

Can you easily remove mods or you have to reinstall the whole game?

What is a good mod that adds some more buildings to the game?

Where is the world's fair flagpole in the menu when sorting buildings by type?

    Posted: 12 Sep 2020 02:05 AM PDT

When sorting the buildings by progress I can find the flagpole however I can't find it when sorting by type. However I like to sort my buildings by type normally so this bothers me. Am I incompetent in looking through the menu or is this an error / gui flaw?
