I have played so much Anno I literally had to have surgery.

    Posted: 18 Jan 2021 07:26 AM PST

    It started with 2070...

After a few thousand hours, I needed more. I went back to 1404, (or Dawn Of Discovery, as it was called here in North America) and I couldn't put it down. I even got it to run on a Surface tablet so I could play while I was traveling. Still not enough Anno. I threw my money at my computer screen when 2205 was announced and blew through all of the DLC as well. I even played the asteroid mining companion app game. Now with almost 700 hours in Anno 1800 (and a little time playing the oldies via the History Editions,) I can conclusively say that I am an Annoholic.

But what does this have to do with surgery? Well, some time after I began playing 2070 obsessively, I started to notice a slight tingling in my elbow. More specifically, the Ulnar nerve. AKA: the funny bone. My job at the time was physically demanding and I attributed the tingling to that. When it would happen, I would just re-adjust my position and it would go away.

Anyone that's tried to break a bad posture habit knows what an uphill battle that is, and after a few years, I had gone from some occasional tingling to complete numbness in the last few fingers of my left hand and elbow- as well as pain in my shoulder, collarbone, and neck. Typing and playing guitar became painful. I went to several doctors and chiropractors in an attempt to find the cause of the pain, and finally, someone got it right.

After a thoroughly unpleasant test involving my forearm, needles, and electricity- I was diagnosed with Cubital Tunnel Syndrome. My Ulnar Nerve was almost completely blocked.

The surgery to remedy this issue was thankfully quite minor, though my left arm will be splinted and in a sling for a few weeks. Here's a picture of me from this morning waiting for my follow-up appointment at the doctor.

To be clear, I'm not solely blaming Anno for this. Desk jobs and bad posture were contributing factors as well, but the moral of the story is: If you are going to play a few thousand hours of ANNO,

DO NOT LEAN ON YOUR ELBOW.

All that being said, I do not regret a single second of my time playing Anno. I just wish I had chosen a better sitting position. Thank you to all of the incredible developers and community managers from Ubisoft and the Anno team. You guys are the greatest!

Idea for Season 3 DLC. Estates and Aristocrats

    Posted: 18 Jan 2021 05:54 AM PST

You can't have a full XIX century experience without estates and those of noble blood. The idea of estate is to boost agricultural and craft goods production.

Estates may built in different architectural styles and populated with different noble families providing different bonuses depending on player choices just like items. However, in this case you don't have a predetermined range like with trade hall but you decide on the range with your influence and the estate size. In order to get good bonuses you should develop your islands cultural, economical or military strength. Depending on which families you would like to get.

Estates may also offer alternative ways to easier fulfill needs of workers/farmers working there based on which goods are produced in the estates but it may negatively affect their happiness. Aristocrats would be also introduced as a new tear whose consumption would be based on craft rather than industrial goods, for example, porcelain and those exported from other sessions

From time to time estates may host cultural events increasing island attractiveness and offering some rewards the same way as world fair.

New player warehouse storage filling up.

    Posted: 18 Jan 2021 09:29 AM PST

Hi there, I just started playing Anno 1404 yesterday. I have about 2 hours logged playing the campaign. I am confused about my excess resource accumulation. My warehouse is constantly full of wood or cider, I am having to manually load on to a ship and sell at a nearby port. I see you can set up trade routes to passively accomplish this but so far I can't get it figured out. The campaign missions don't really tell you how to do anything either.

    Hello,

Do you know if there are same ideas / layouts / screenshots for building zoo, botanical garden and museum with every item inside them? I'm starting to build this and looking for inspiration.

Statistics screen ala anno 1800 in anno 1404?

    Posted: 18 Jan 2021 12:56 AM PST

I love Anno 1800's statistics screen for knowing how much i need to produce for my population

I got so used to it that when i try playing older anno titles im really at a loss as to how much should i make

How can you tell if you produce enough of something without having that tool?

Getting production on Crown Falls or have resources produced and shipped there?

    Posted: 17 Jan 2021 03:54 PM PST

I'm on my first attempt to build a big city on Crown Falls and I'm considering whether I should produce everything on the island or have other small islands produce everything and then deliver it there.

I did build a small "inner village" on Crown Falls since I liked the idea of having farmer villages on the outskirts (mainly at the back) of the island and having the investors residents + industry by the shore.

    Opinions?

Is is a bug or is it changed by an update?

    Posted: 17 Jan 2021 03:01 PM PST

In the zoo or the botanical garden, I can see all the animals or plants greyed out, even if I don't have any animals or plants in the whole world. I remember than before you had a question mark and you had to discover them... I liked the discovery before, im a little disappointed but it is not a big deal. I am just curious though.

    Carts doing a world tour

    Carts doing a world tour

    Hey there, fellow Annoholics,

does anyone else have the problem with their carts doing a goddamn world tour when delivering stuff? I don't know how to stop them/make them going to the warehouse except building things in an "extra network", seperated from other productions...

Any way to change how fast the expeditions for the new maps pop up

    Posted: 17 Jan 2021 02:35 PM PST

it would be nice to spend some time on the 1st map instead of having to rush to get islands before the ai grab them all? maybe something like changing the quests from starting only when u got engineers instead of artisans maybe?
