PSA for fans of The Passage DLC

    Posted: 04 Mar 2021 02:23 AM PST

If you enjoy Anno 1800's The Passage DLC then anyone who has access to BBC iPlayer may like to know that TV drama 'The Terror' has just arrived on it, having formerly been a BT exclusive (in the UK).

It's based on the true story of two ill-fated Royal Navy ships that disappeared in the Arctic in 1846, and stars Jared Harris, Tobias Menzies and Ciarán Hinds.

Not sure if Old Nate features though!

In first person mode, if you ride the farm tractor up to the Clearwater Pool and select it, you can then ride the swan boats through your city.

Does the AI expand to the new DLC areas before you discover them?

    Posted: 04 Mar 2021 06:09 AM PST

I know the AI (depending on the difficulty) will expand to the new world before you if you're not fast enough. I recently started playing with the areas from the DLCs (like Enbesa) and I'm wondering if the AI behaves the same here.

E.g. I discovered Enbesa as soon as I was able to, but after claiming the first Island I was too busy managing my islands in the old and new world. So fast forward a couple hours later every other island is taken now and I'm missing a lot of resources. So I was wondering if I could just wait to discover Enbesa/Kap Trelawney/The Arctic until the endgame and still be able to claim islands.

Anyone likes playing single island challenge ?

    Posted: 04 Mar 2021 09:45 AM PST

I am now playing a single island per region (with Sunken Treasures disabled as I dont like the easiness of Crown Falls), it makes the game so much more interesting. I started on plentiful fertilities and minerals. Now I finished the world fair and support my investor population with everything they need. The most challenging part so far was fitting all I need on a new world island. Now there is not much left to do in the old and new worlds I am looking to expand into arctic and enbesa. Do you think these regions are also viable with single island only ? Any tips ?

    I hate the Arctic

    Posted: 04 Mar 2021 12:07 PM PST

But still, I'm trying to at least get one gas pump going to say I did it.

The big problem is I tried to offshore brass production and everything is still screwed up back in the old world for a while. These lamps are stupid slow to produce so the plateau is just going badly but at least I got coal supply there.

Because I'm a noob the AI took all but one other island. Should I just attack them and take stuff to make lamps or will it just be faster to try to make more with the two islands I have?

I guess I could go to Enbassa or Crown falls in the meantime. Trying to build up crown falls is too overwhelming to me right now as a noob. I just look at that island and get overwhelmed!

Any advice? I'm not interested in beauty or heavy city designing, I just want to get through all the place levels and do some worlds fairs. I have the palace but attractiveness is really tough to maintain. And I'd like to do the anarchist quest line but I don't seem to be able to get that arc started despite doing lots of quests.

In any case, the game told me I've already lost. I can't believe you can't even see what victory condition you set :)

Racing against AI - is it time based or progress based?

    Posted: 04 Mar 2021 12:02 PM PST

I feel kinda stressed when I spend a long time designing the perfect optimal grid layout instead of just slamming things down and moving on. What is the correct mindset here?

Ie, will the AI progress based on your progression or simply based on time?

What are the downsides of fast forwarding time?

Ultimate Expert ~ Season 1&2 ~ Investors in 6 hours ~ Lets Play ~ No Mods or Town Halls

    Posted: 04 Mar 2021 11:51 AM PST

Just after update 9.3 hit, I played a non-stop play through into investors on the highest expert settings possible with all DLC's of season 1 & 2 active. Which felt like a nice challenge to pursue, which took me just shy of 6 hours to complete.

    Speed-up key (while holding only)

    Posted: 04 Mar 2021 07:35 AM PST

Is there a way to get the 2205 speed-up key system? it only speeds up the game when the key is held down, then returns to normal speed when let go. I got used to this style of speed-up, it's very useful when you're waiting for buildings to complete, or ships to reach somewhere.

1800 just switches it to a faster speed, then I must press another key to bring it back to normal speed.

    Thanks.

    Good management mods

    Posted: 04 Mar 2021 06:17 AM PST

Can anyone point me in the direction of a good mod that helps with management and trade? For example - seeing global buy/sell limits, minimum stock, ability to use more complex logic...

    Expanding to new islands, when?

    Posted: 04 Mar 2021 10:01 AM PST

I'm playing the campaign and kind of taking my time. I'm still in the old world and have reached artisans. I settled some 5 large islands early on in the campaign, but they are uninhabited right now. I know that your global population can greatly increase your income.

But at what stage or time is it most appropriate or logical to start actually settling, building and producing on new islands in the old world?

I know the AI will settle islands anyways, whether it is in the old world or the new world.

The reason behind this question is that keeping an overview on new developing islands is a big task when you are also expanding your empire. So I can say that there is a dilemma of should you first expand to new islands or to new world?

One obvious answer is: why not both? And the argument against this answer is: which one strategy will give you more income, influence and security?

    Thank you.

Is there a way to set the minimum stock of a material globally or by region?

    Posted: 04 Mar 2021 03:48 AM PST

I'd like to set the minimum stock of, let's say, wood to 100 in all my islands. Is this possible without going through each island manually?

Anyone suffer from tourist ship bug?

    Posted: 04 Mar 2021 08:09 AM PST

You know, there're three tourist ships in Anno 1800. The smallest one almost looks like a boat, but the largest one is close to Great Eastern. As I know the largest one appears when the city's attrativeness exceed 6000. Untill yesterday, My Crown falls(attractiveness 23000) was also one of the city in which the largest tourist ship appears. But it's no more. While I was redesigning the harbor, suddenly the smallest ship appeared. There was no change to my attractiveness. First time, I thought it's a temporary bug so had waited for the next arrival. But the next ship was also the smallest one. I really want to fix it, but don't know how. I'm using 'harbor area increase mod' and 'harbor life mod'. These can be the reason, but I never found the case like me. If someone know this bug and how to fix it, plz let me know.

    Anno games grid system discussion

    Posted: 04 Mar 2021 05:23 AM PST

Hello everyone! As this is my first post of this sub I wanted to hear you guys' opinion on something that came multiple times to my mind while playing the Anno franchise.

Would you think that it would be a great idea to remove the shared building grid? I'm not thinking about removing it 100% tho, my idea would be to still have one but it would be for each building individually. For example, farms would still need their fields adjacent and of the same grid as the main building. Paths could be curved and house could be built organically to match it. One two buildings are starting to get close to each other, they would snap helping you with your normal grid layout.

I think shared grid could do a lot to help efficiency as well as build around natural obstacles (rivers, mountains, cliffs, etc.)

    What are your thoughts?

Considering placing/moving dock items is what makes people running DX12 crash all the time, you'd think BB would have fixed this error before releasing Docklands DLC?... Unless you like losing 30fps of performance to go back and run Anno in DX11......

    I delay moving to engineers

    Posted: 03 Mar 2021 09:04 PM PST

I've had the game since launch but just started playing last week, and bought all the dlc. I've been playing incredibly slowly, doing missions, excursions, trading, etc. I've also been building up other islands as well, ooh and collecting animals for the zoo. One thing that I can't bring myself to do, is go to engineers. I just think the housing for engineers is so boring and repetitive. I'm inclined to just hide an engineer neighbored on some desolate island and build all of the unlocks with artisan residential buildings.

Am I alone with the dislike for the engineer housing?

    Multiple Island setup question

    Posted: 03 Mar 2021 04:33 PM PST

    Hey guys,

So I just upgraded to my first engineer house and here's how my island setup currently is.

1 island with only farmers and everything that requires farmers to make. I then ship any excess over to a worker island to fill their needs.

1 island with only workers and everything that requires workers to make. I then ship any excess to my artisan island to fill their needs.

New world shipping rum, cotton, and caoutchouc back to the Old World so far.

Should I continue to do this all the way to investors? Should I put artisans and engineers on the same island? I'm not sure how to progress from here. I don't have commuter piers yet as I just unlocked it. Any advise would be much appreciated, thanks.
