    Land of lions was great

    Posted: 05 Mar 2021 05:17 AM PST

Warning: some Land of lions spoilers below.

I loved the story in the dlc and thought it was a breath of fresh air. I've always felt anno lacked lore and important decision making that has consequences on your world as a whole and I was very impressed and suprised that the dlc did that. The decision making feature was great and the only thing I feel bad about it is how it's not in the base game or other dlcs. The quests (even the "regular" ones) were some of the best in anno imo. Like just being able to take the king on a sightseeing trip was very funny (and how I had to throw him overboard as a castaway to turn in a quest). Back when I played 1404 as a kid I always loved to explore the npc islands, and having exploration and background rewarded, with changing scenes really hit the nail on the head for me. I also enjoyed solving all the puzzles, even if a few houses had to burn down because of it.

I study archeaology and some linguistics of ancient languages and was very suprised how correct and in-depth the translation quests were. The area is obviously africa/ethiopia inspired, but it was interesting how many other cultures had been integrated into it (like mesopotamian/egypt stuff).

I cant really complain but I'd have loved to see a more indepth archeaology system and I also couldnt find any of the other inscriptions that the scholar mentioned. Hopefully someone at the dev team sees thid, because I think land of lions was a great step for anno as a whole.

I built the city cemetery very close to the industrial center of my city, so that it is quicker to bury the corpses of my workers. I make them work a lot, yes.

"A custom Map" from Continuous Game section of anno2070fandom

    Posted: 05 Mar 2021 12:14 PM PST

    Hi together,

I just downloaded anno 2070 to play it again after all these years.

I was looking for a way to get "infinite" resources on my Islands. I want to go for a beautiful big map where I can focus on aesthetics. I found the "custom Map" in the Continuous Game section of anno2070fandom, and that sounds 100% like the map I was looking for.
    But I cant download it.
Neither can I find a working download anywhere else. There was a reupload around 5 years ago, but it doesn't work anymore.

Any chance one of you still has it or knows where to get it?

Maybe someone can make me happy! :D

PSA: Crown Falls with just a tourist pier will generate a few thousand coins

    Posted: 05 Mar 2021 11:57 AM PST

Even if you aren't ready to develop it and just rushed in to grab some islands before moving on. Slap a tourist pier down, it'll increase your revenue by a couple thousand.

Very handy in the early game. It's a lil cheesy but if you're up the creek without a paddle, it's a good safety net

I have a few questions and bigs to report.

    Posted: 05 Mar 2021 12:47 PM PST

Hai! I've recently started playing Anno 1800 again after a long hiatus and I have a few questions about all the new stuff and also a few bugs to report.

    1. Harbor roads.

I really which there was more flexibility when it comes to deciding which road unit is a land unit and which one is a harbor unit. I started a new play through around the time Docklands was announced and blue-printed an entire island in the new world before it came out. Now that it was released, I ended up with a really ugly-looking mish-mash of interconnecting land and harbor roads. Would it be possible to allow players to decide which roads become harbor roads and which don't? I'm talking about the roads that are being build on the coast.

    1. This one is similar to the previous one. I'm so happy the Anno dev team made it easier to build fences and hedges by allowing us to just click and drag them to build large chunks of them at a time, thanks for that! The issue I'm having is that individual elements of those fences and hedges have different designs and now I have no way to control which one is placed. For instance: an end price for an artisan-level hedge can have a bench, a tree or a rubbish bin. I used to be able to chose which one I can place, but now I have to destroy one I don't like, place another one and hope that it's the one I want. Has anyone found a way to work around that?

    2. I'm experiencing a weird thing where an AI is asking permission to settle islands and would then go ahead and settle them despite my refusing to give them permission. Is this new?

    3. The new voice acting is quiet. I've noticed this before when The Passage came out. The voice acting from the dude that guides you through the docklands tutorial is a lot quieter than the other voices. It's as if he's trying to talk to me from a different room. It's especially noticeable when he says his lines just after I had a "returned from its voyage" notification. It's weird. It's kinda funny that this issue has arisen again since the new captain guy speaks with an a obvious Australian accent, and so did Lady Jane(was that her name?) from The Passage DLC. Is Anno using a new voice acting studio in Australia for these 2 DLCs? Something's off with their mixing.

    4. I'm getting too many Land of Lions animal and other items from expeditions. I had this problem back when Sunken Treasures came out too. It seems like in order to make sure that people who had active saves around the time the new DLCs came out could quickly collect all the new animals, the dev team adjusted the expedition reward pool to yield more of the newer animals. I forgot about the Sunked Treasure issue long ago and I was still playing an old save when Land of Lions came out, so I didn't really notice that the expeditions were coming back with overwhelming amounts of the new items, but now that I'm playing a new save, it has become very noticeable. I mean, I just had a 3-skull zoological expedition to the Arctic(!!!) come back with a Dire Wolf, a Lion and a Black Rhino. I mean...lolwut

    5. This one's a question for the community. Could someone please help me find the lines the expedition captain says during expeditions? A quick google search yielded nothing and I'm a bit too lazy to turn on the subtitles to figure out what it is he's actually saying. I'm having trouble understanding his accent sometimes and I'm certain that one of his lines is "gnash your f****ing cutlass".

    Thanks!

Im running 2600X and RTX3070...I can see that ill need 32gb of RAM. What CPU characteristics does this game prefer?

    Posted: 05 Mar 2021 12:03 PM PST

Easy enough to get a 32gb kit but im wondering down the road when i swap my CPU, what should I be looking at? Multi core or single core performance? Any suggestions on specific CPUs?

    Cheers

    I guess I'm just retarded.

    Posted: 05 Mar 2021 05:42 AM PST

I love simulation/RTS games. I love Anno 1800, at the start. It seems when I get to engineers/investors there is just an overwhelming amount of stuff going on and I can't keep up with it. Multiple worlds, multiple islands, multiple pirates, a crazy amount of stuff constantly happening. "A fire has broke out"

"One of our ships is under attack"

    "Your people are rioting"

    "A fire"

    "Your people are getting sick"

Now, aside from all that I have forgotten about resources or what I was recently doing on one of 30 different islands, or forgot to replace whatever ship on whatever trade route was destroyed. Also, you have to build with the end in mind so when I get to electricity I usually have to reformat my entire city. Ugh just so much going on I get a headache in the end game. Might switch and try Tropico 6?

When do you build your big “main city”?

    Posted: 04 Mar 2021 12:45 PM PST

I really enjoy Anno despite having far less time to play it than I want, and there is a question that I've been confused about for a while now. I see all these screenshots of huge cities with the zoos and palaces and docks, etc. but I never really understand when you begin building such a city while playing the game in sandbox mode.

I have yet to get super far in but to me the game is such a juggle fest of resource management and production building that I can't even visualize a point when I can just build a big beautiful city that I want to. Do you have to wait until the area with the huge island? Do all production and trade elsewhere?

    Appreciate any tips/answers.

Best way to get Special Scrap in Cape Trelawney?

    Posted: 04 Mar 2021 01:26 PM PST

I'm trying to collect special scrap in Cape Trelawney - the 3rd tier of scrap that you use to transmute Old Nate's goods. But I feel like it's taking forever to get enough of it. I just spent 2 hours going around using maps and got ~800 scrap, ~400 nice scrap, but only 46 special scrap. Luckily I don't really need THAT much special scrap, but even assuming I need like 500 special scrap to get all the -workforce items I might want eventually, just seems like such a pain. Compared to the Arctic scrap that is relatively easy to grind once you get a dozen airships.

What are the best items to be using? I currently have Advanced Umbilical Cable (+30% salvage scrap amount) and Mai Kalan, Descryer of Brilliant Jewels (+30% salvage scrap amount and increased chance of finding items of rarity Rare/Epic/Legendary). The 3rd item is the echo-location item.

I also don't care about artifacts/animals/machines. Just about scrap.

My normal process is to grab ~20 maps from Old Nate in Cape Trelawney (I only get epic and legendary ones). Open them all, and then run around and collect. I have a few cargo ships with my salvager to pick up the stuff. I only do maps in Cape Trelawney so that I don't have to go to a different region. Maybe a different region would have better special scrap results? Or do I need different items? Or is it just how it is and I'll have to deal with it?

Request (Bug fix?) to make Sunken Treasures quests recognize Docklands buildings

    Posted: 04 Mar 2021 02:40 PM PST

I searched, sorry if this has been called out already. I activated Docklands on a save where I'm still doing Sunken Treasures quest stuff, and a step has the queen asking for a pier and harbourmaster. Building the new Docklands versions of those doesn't fulfill the quest.

Maybe that's intentional, and it's easy enough to build the regular versions and delete them, but I thought it was worth pointing out if it's a bug/oversight.
