    I messed up...

    Posted: 11 Mar 2021 07:19 AM PST

Two days ago, knowing almost next to nothing about it, I bought Anno 1800. I thought I would just "try it" for a couple of hours and then go be productive be in life. I played ten hour straight. The worst part is I had to go out of town for work for a week yesterday. Now returning to Anno 1800 is all I can think about. Send help.

    Settling islands - resources management

    Posted: 11 Mar 2021 10:32 AM PST

Almost everyone recommends settling a couple of islands early game, but settling all available islands is not recommended because one of few things it does is it costs you influence.

However, is it on the other hand not a good idea to grab as many islands as possible? That's because you will essentially be taking income and resources away from other players.

Game is lagging close to every minute for about 4-6 seconds - solutions?

    Posted: 11 Mar 2021 06:56 AM PST

Is anyone experiencing the same and has found a solution? Do I have to set down my graphics settings? Before the last DLCs, I had no problems with highest graphics.

    This is really annoying

Does Eli not refresh his items when there's a ship nearby?

    Posted: 11 Mar 2021 05:02 AM PST

Basically, the title pretty much sums up the entire question:

I started up a new game today and decided to build a schooner that serves basically no purpose but to sit in front of Eli's prison so I can buy items whenever he has something I want to have. However, after he didn't refresh his stock (unless I rolled, that is, but the price didn't reset either) for a while I decided to wait for the timer to run out and... nothing happened?

He still didn't refresh for quite some time so I decided to try moving my ship away, wait a few minutes and all of a sudden he did have new items and the cost of refreshing was reset to 5k. However, I've rolled a bit since and left my boat in front of his prison again, because I thought I might have just misunderstood what the timer means and had unlucky timing, but it seems like he's refusing to refresh again.

Do those traders not refresh their items while you have a ship in front of their port? It's been ~1 hour (on speed 2 and 3, mostly) since I first bought items from Eli and he only refreshed his stock (without me paying for it) once - when I moved away. Is my ship the problem? Does it just actually take that long for them to refresh and I just had the worst timing with moving my ship away? or is there something else that's wrong with my Eli?

    Hitpoints and damage

    Posted: 11 Mar 2021 03:50 AM PST

For ANNO 1800: I am trying to make sense of hitpoints on ships and damage per second.

Looking at a frigate, the hitpoints are 2000 (whatever unit they are; meters/newtons????). Looking at a clipper, the hitpoints are 2500 (xy units).

What are these then? Are they how hard you can hit enemies or how strong your ship is?

Secondly, damage per second. If a frigate has hitpoint of 2000, but a clipper has a hitpoint of 2500, then why is the damage per second of a frigate 28 and that of a clipper 0?

Or am I understanding this rather simple thing very wrong?

[Idea] Anno 1800 Land based combat.

    Posted: 11 Mar 2021 02:37 AM PST

I know many ppl does not want land based combat in Anno 1800. But I was thinking about a very simplified way of making it.

It would work the same way as you take over an island with sea based combat, that is destroy the harbor and the island is yours. But here you would make one building like "City hall" one destructible building, nothing else on the island would be touched by the invading troops.

So a small game play scenario.

You have built your barracks and have 50 farmers that you don't use for the moment, so you make them to "Private" units (First rank) and load them 50 in your "Ship-of-the-Line" and sail over to and enemy you would like to attack. when you are close to the coast you get the option to "invade island" when you press that button the attack will begin.

An animation of rowboats from the Ship-of-the-Line will start and each rowboat would hold 10 units that would start moving to the shore and then walk/climb/move towards the city hall.

The defender also had a Barrack and had 30 farmers converted to privates to defend the island. they would move towards each other and then engage each other when they are in close proximity.

The attackers would win and have 20 privates left, that would continue towards the city hall and attack it until it explodes the same way the harbor would do if it was attacked by boats. Unless they can create more defenders and win the battle.

you would not be able to control these units more than to abort the attack if you notice that the defending army's is to great. all these units will only move and engage each other when a land based combat has begun.

    some army ranks.

    Farmers - Private

    Workes - Corporal

    Artisan - Sergeant

    Engineers - Captain

    Investors - Major

Canons? (would only be handled by Captains) (would be nice if the defenders have build defensive fortifications)

This would also open up the option to have maps that is all landbased

TLDR: It would work like a simple tower defense game.

This is just something I have been thinking on and I wanted to get it out of my head.

I don't want this to be too complicated, I just want it to open up more options when playing the game and make it more fun.

Please comment and share your idea's!
