What's worth buying and selling for both ships and goods Posted: 22 Sep 2019 07:16 AM PDT | I made a little program in C# which calculated the cost to produce each good in the game. With that data, I then calculated which goods were worth making to sell for profit and which were worth buying instead. Below is a snippet of the results for the goods: Results from making, passive buying and passive selling calculations. I only showed the ones which make a profit and which are worth buying over making. If you want to see the list of results for every good I've added a link to the document: Complete Google sheet of goods and ships The AI will also purchase a small selection of goods for a decent profit: Profits when selling produced goods to traders. Ships were a little more complex to determine the profit for as you lose profit the longer the ships are up. However, I don't know if there are any cases where you'd lose money selling a ship you made, even if you had to sail them across the whole map. Ship calculation results. TLDR; In conclusion: - Selling ships you made is the way to go when it comes to making bank.
- Steel beams, steel, pigs and tallow are much cheaper to buy than to make.
- Produce what you need to get by. In most cases, it's cheaper to produce the goods yourself but most of them won't net you a profit when selling off excess.
- Coal mines cost $2.5 more per unit of coal but save valuable space.
- New World sails save you $25 per unit, getting you an additional profit of $250 per Schooner, $500 per Gunboat and Frigate, and $750 per Clipper and Ship-of-the-line.
I'm hoping I didn't make any mistakes but if I did let me know if I did and I'll make corrections. Sources for values: - Production buildings and chains
- Trade prices
- Ship prices and construction costs
- Selling ships in-game

Would Anno 1800 suit my and my wife's playing style? Posted: 22 Sep 2019 02:19 AM PDT Hello. Recently I stumbled upon Anno 1800 and after reading some reviews I'm considering buying it to play multiplayer with my wife (no co-op is not a problem as we want to build our separate empires). I realize the franchise has been on the market for a long time, but since I have never played any of the previous titles, I thought it might be a good idea to ask some of you for advice whether the game would suit our (or, more importantly, my wife's) playing style. Here is the short description of how we like to play our games: - We have just finished playing Civ 6, having invested about 200 hours in it. We loved the game and did not care much about moronic AI. We are both builders so taking care of our empires without having to worry about AI players was actually a plus.
- Speaking of which, one of the top posts on this forum states that pirate ships "cheat", respawning in big numbers shortly after being destroyed. Such things drive us nuts. We both like clear rules and do not like when AI players have unfair advantage. I read that one can disable pirates but I, on the other hand, like to play with everything that game has to offer. Are there any other instances where standard rules do not apply to AI opponents?
- But perhaps the most important aspect of my wife's play is taking her time. Very often, while playing Civ 6, I would finish my turn and then wait about 10-20 minutes as my wife tinkered with every city, took notes and looked to each and every aspect of her civilization. Anno 1800, on the other hand, is a RTS with, supposedly, TONS of things to take care of. She never played a non-turn-based game before and I am not sure if being unable to pause and slowly consider her options won't be a big turnoff for her. Are there any turn-based-loving here veterans that can shed some light on the issue?
- And finally – do we need two copies of the game to play it (the game doesn't support LAN, does it?)?
I appreciate all the comments. EDIT: Thank you for all your exhaustive answers. Having read your comments I'm pretty sure we're going to have a great time playing the game. I've just signed for Uplay+ and am downloading the trial version as I write. See you when I get there :) submitted by /u/footopia [link] [comments] |

Is it me or it is memory leak? Posted: 22 Sep 2019 07:01 AM PDT I don't know why, but for some reason Anno 1800 crashes on my PC unless I manually set the virtual memory to around 50 GB (or leave it on automatic, but then it takes almost 100 GB). Digging with task manager on the process shown that it uses only 4 GB of RAM and around 35-40 GB of page file after some 5 hours of gaming. Has anyone encountered that kind of behavior? What could be the reason? Computer is 3900X with 32GB DDR4 and 980Ti 6GB. submitted by /u/dakky21 [link] [comments] |
