How my cities are laid out (for anyone who wants ideas)

How my cities are laid out (for anyone who wants ideas)

I had a comment on another post wondering if I could share how I lay out some of my cities. So I thought I would share a few of them.

Basically unless I'm restricted by room or trying to be the most efficient with space (ie trying to squeeze as many investors as I can) I try to lay out my cities with a bit of room for a small garden, driveway and footpath per house, in groups of 6 or 8. I also use as any town halls as I can fit. Finally, I leave enough room on the peripheral to have a sealed road and a wall going around the entire town (or if it's village full of farmers, I use a row of trees).

The post I had early was an expansion of investors I was working on, because I was running short of influence points. So I was trying to do using as minimal support buildings and resources as possible, which considering I've got 100% riot chance due to propaganda use, cause some rather sizeable riots....

This was the pic I posted regarding that:

After a couple of hours, it looks like this:

I use the blueprint mode to lay out the residential buildings, then go through and find the best placements for the power plants, town halls, and the Bank. All the other stuff (Gentleman club, fire, hospital etc) I just stick on the edges when I'm done.

Then I have several other islands where I house my artisans, workers, and farmers.

With my farmers, I lay the houses out individually and fill the gaps with bushes and trees etc to create more of a village environment. Any spare island I have I'll set up some of these villages:

The New World is a bit harder as space is limited, but on some of my new work island you can get the same results:

    https://preview.redd.it/vd3uhb7x4sw31.jpg?width=1904&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=00d9d3a746396fa50b0b56f89e503353e268eb2c

And that's basically all to try and feed my big city on Cape, which I've already posted on here a couple of times before:

    https://preview.redd.it/rkkfheg15sw31.jpg?width=1904&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=139943b3b84f45699fdb89bbb879df5ff8cf0647

Town hall items are really important to maintain all this. On pretty much all of them I have Elliot Blitz (+10% happiness, -20% illness, fire, riots) and Millicents Manifesto (+18% happiness, +15% Workforce, -30% riot). I especially need all the minus riot chances because I need to run minus need requirements and happiness propaganda through the paper:

    https://preview.redd.it/07z397js5sw31.jpg?width=1904&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7226e73989c9768b1be51c00dc21eb501ce4b64d

Otherwise without the happiness boosts, its riots all the time and without the minus need requirements, I run out of Coffee and Chocolate all the time.On my workers, artisans and engineers I use the +50% workforce increase booster. On my Investors I run Mr Garrick (provides pocket watches and jewellery) which drastically reduces the amount of gold I need.

Overall the biggest aid to doing all of this is the blueprint mode. It is fantastic for allowing you to plan out where you want to build, how to design and make it all work with the supporting buildings.

    Hope that helps!

My island is so ugly but so productive

    Posted: 04 Nov 2019 06:52 PM PST

I have a lot of buildings that greatly reduce the attractiveness of my island. I've tried adding a bunch of ornaments but they don't add nearly enough attractiveness. How can I overcome the smog and fat filled air?

Edit: I just started this last weekend and I love the game so far. I played a lot of Lethis: Path of Progress and this is a great stepping stone up after that. I've got about 20 hours now. The only major issue I have is that the game has crashed on me many times in those 20 hours. It's not so bad that I won't play but it's very annoying for a $60 game.

    Help with Running Mods

    Posted: 04 Nov 2019 04:54 PM PST

I purchased Anno 1800 through Epic and I can't find directions on how to run mods that match up to my file directory. What folder should the mod loader and mods be in? I've put them anywhere I can think of but the mods don't run. Thanks in advance!

    Edit: /u/blue49 provided me with a step by step guide in another thread;

    Step 1:

Downlaod the modloader and Spice It Up! mod here

    Step 2:

    Extract the files of Modloader-5-0-7-3-1565188899.zip

    Step 3:

place the 2 *dll files where your Anno1800.exe is located (in your case = D:\Program Files (x86)\Epic Games\Launcher\Anno 1800\Bin\Win64

it should ask you to replace a file. Click yes. The backup is already provided with the Modloader zip folder

    Step 3:

Extract the files of Spice it Up-5-2-6-1-1568917477.zip. There is a "mods" folder and "Modmanager.jar"

    Step 5:

Place both the mods folder and Modmanager.jar to D:\Program Files (x86)\Epic Games\Launcher\Anno 1800

My issue was not moving the .jar file into the root directory. I hope this helps someone else as well.
