Tips for someone diving into 1404 for the first time

    Posted: 13 Aug 2020 11:27 AM PDT

Hey, so my first anno game was actually 2070. My computer could barely run it at the time, and i had no idea about any wikis or anything so the whole thing was fun but felt tricky to actually know what was going on.

Cut to now and i have almost 700 hours in Anno 1800 and I'm still in love with it. The QoL changes like production time breakdown (where it says how long it takes a given factory to produce a good) and service buildings using distance via streets instead of a static radius.

So going to 1404 has been an interesting switch. I'll gladly accept all tips. I've played for a few hours but beyond getting patricians set up I'm still figuring things out.

This is the History Edition, do i lose anything by only playing the Venice expansion for continuous games? I've only been playing vanilla for now

Is there a point to building beyond the first tier or so of occidents on any production building? Besides needing more money from taxes, the lack of a workforce system makes this seem pointless.

Is there a faster way to get oriental architecture levels besides giving the vizier scrolls from northburg?

Is there a way to minimize dependency on NPCs for goods, especially tools in the early game?

I'm not used to dealing with land armies, how important are walls/keeps with low difficulty AI? They look cool to build but similar to trains in 1800, it seems to take forethought to implement them in a way that looks good.

Should i be setting passive trade orders for anything I am full on? In 1800 passive trade seems to barely ever do anything but selling off some rope in 1404 has been a consistent source of income

Is it easier to turn your first island into your main population center or do you just hope you can find a big empty island later? Since there isn't a crown falls equivalent in this game lol

Question about the Train Mod v2.0.3

    Posted: 13 Aug 2020 02:15 AM PDT

Trying to understand how this mod works...

So there are 2 central stations. These produces Travelers.

There are multiple Small Stations. These take the Travelers and produce Letters.

There is a Chief Post Office. These are supposed to take the letters from the Small Stations and produce "post". These seem to require a warehouse to be in range (more on this in a second...)

There are Hotels. These require a central station and "post".

So here is my problem. The hotel does not have its supply of "post" because the post office isn't detecting either the Central Station or Small Station in range. I have these connected by roads. The Post Office also says it needs a warehouse in range, however placing a warehouse next to it does not solve this issue.

Can anyone explain to me what I need to do to get the small stations to deliver Letters to the Post Office, and how to get the Post Office to produce/delivery "post" to the Hotels?

    Thanks.

Is It Possible to Roll Back A Patch/Update?

    Posted: 13 Aug 2020 11:34 AM PDT

    Hi,

Can someone tell me if I can go back to the previous version of the game like you can on steam? The latest patch will have made my save useless due to the mods I have and I honestly don't have a strong opinion on the carnival stuff anyway.

    Thanks

    How to end a war?

    Posted: 13 Aug 2020 07:54 AM PDT

After buying a Lot of his shares, one of the Ai declared war. I've tried to be peacfull and not attack him, but whenever he attacks me or whatever, I lose reputation. I tried taking down most of his islands, hoping to force him into surrender, but it doesn't work. I don't want to wipe him off the map, because he makes me a lot of money(shares). Can I force him into peace? Is there a way?

    Torpedos not doing damage

    Posted: 13 Aug 2020 11:00 AM PDT

    Hello fellow Annoholics,

1800 problem I can't find a solution for: When I try to siege a city and fire torpedos at the habour buildings it just explodes in a big fountain, not doing any damage at all. Only tried this on Dr. Merciers habours but it worked on other players in different saves. Anyone else with this problem?

    Items usage

    Posted: 12 Aug 2020 10:06 PM PDT

Are all items providing a reduction or increase in events like fire, strike, disease affecting an ongoing event? Because if not, it would mean you must add them preventive-ly, which does not match well with their name and real world use.
