    Harbour ornaments

    Posted: 25 Feb 2021 11:50 AM PST

I have been updating my harbour area for Docklands. Until now, I used a lot of ornaments in the "Port Ornaments" mod - some of them similar to what we now have with Docklands but with a lot more variation.

But since Docklands it has become impossible to place them. The ornaments are still available in the menu, but I just get "free harbour area needed" and a red glow anywhere I try to place them.

I was looking for a possible update, but I can't remember where I got it from... I thought it was on Nexus, by the same guy who did the City Ornaments (u/muggenstuermer), but apparently it's not. It's not on MAUG either.

    Any ideas?

While very strong when pushed to it's limits, Docklands is unexpectedly amazing for some other play styles.

    Posted: 24 Feb 2021 03:37 PM PST

This post isn't meant to invalidate opinions but to present a different perspective.

Between the expected number of feedback threads popping up, there has been a variety of feedback ranging from bubbly enthusiasm to horrified disbelieve at what players can use this DLC for. It is, without a doubt, amazing for record players, since it allows for even greater optimization, as well as pushing for numbers far beyond what was possible before. Players who enjoy giving themselves the greatest possible challenge, while utilizing every tool the game offers them, rightfully feel it can make things too easy.

However besides record builders and challenge players there are at least two other play styles, and that is what this post aims to talk about. First up, the "feeling" of this DLC is actually amazing. Trade is a central point of the game from both a setting and a feature design point, however asides from selling soap to Eli or delivering gold from the pirates to Nate, trade was often a bit limited and hardly something the player could focus their play style on. The feel of the new trade management, at least for me personally, is amazing. Specialising in specific goods, striking profitable deals, securing raw materials to keep the production running and building a name for your company and a reputation for your goods that will ultimately reap you in huge profits. This is the 19th century capitalist simulation of my dreams, so to speak. To put it short and simple, it fits the game world well, and caters to the role playing aspect of the game.

Second are the beauty builders that inspire this sub with their posts of lovingly crafted islands. Placing dozens of the same production building, even when spread out, often doesn't look pretty. You'd want to have many different looking buildings, arranged in a manner that breaks up uniform patterns and lots of open space to decorate. With the ability to supply islands easier, completely trade in certain goods and only produce certain amounts of other things, this DLC feeds right into that, allowing for very calm and realistic looking islands to become sustainable and somewhat decently efficient from a game play perspective as well.

In short, while the concerns voiced are valid, I am amazed how much this DLC does for certain other play styles, and love it a lot.

Bit of help with some achievements please?

    Posted: 25 Feb 2021 05:34 AM PST

Heya, I've got it into my head to grab all the achievements like a maniac. I'm gonna expert the campaign first, which I should be able to blast through. Then very slowly tip away at the rest in a proper long ass several month long game.

I don't mind and starting a few smaller sessions just to nuke shorter ones. Loading/reloading as needed and cheesing a few like defeating mercer (with luxuries) right at the beginning of a new game and then moving on.

Thing is there's a couple that are right out of the field for what I'm doing and are frankly not fun in anyway. Either they need a dedicated game that could takes days to complete or are just really really frindy so I just want to cheat my way past them. With the use of community saves, cheat engines or well, some advice on how they can be done within a few mins failing that.

The list of Cheevos I wanna skeevo are below:

    • One for all, all for one - Multiplayer one. No interest, don't want to waste anyone's time
    • Chartered Company - Unless it pops by accident starting a game just for this just seems annoying
    • Seriously Invested - I really, *really* don't want to ruin my main island and feed all the resources just to get this. I beauty build my islands and 50K investors does not fit that play style
    • Fuel Imports - Seems arbitrary, and dull
    • Megopalace - Another boring pointless one, I don't want to ruin my city at the cape just for this
    • The Wilde Ones - Same as the rest mostly, I don't want to dump out a ton of scholar residences and feed them just for this. It would ruin my beauty!

Ok that's it. Any help, ideally with stuff that I can cheaty zip by way past them the better.

    Thanks! Big love

Edit: Just to prefix I'm not here to create or facilitate a 'Achievement Bad' why bother blah blah conversation. Take that elsewhere, thanks

Potential issues with trains and oil supply to powerplants

    Posted: 25 Feb 2021 09:08 AM PST

Has anyone noticed that sometimes the oil doesn't get to the power plants fast enough and they start stop working for a little bit? I never had this issue prior to the new docklands update and only recently noticed it. Anybody else having this problem or is it just me? Could potentially be a new glitch as this tends to happen every time a new update rolls out?
