Anno has been carrying me so hard in school

    Posted: 12 Mar 2021 07:38 PM PST

This game series is way more helpful in life than it should be 😂

Even back from the Anno 1404 days, I learned so much vocabulary from playing this game, it got me ahead in elementary school french class by a long shot.

Now with optimizing Anno 1800 productions, trade routes and even the trade system of the new DLC, some microeconomics principles seem obvious.

    Thanks Ubi !

Capital city anno 1800 - opinion

    Posted: 13 Mar 2021 02:12 AM PST

Hi. I'm rather new to the game, and have reached engineers recently. Questions of opinion here:

The game is not really a city management game but more of an economic/empire management strategy game, right? We know that you are at the service of the crown at all times, you pay taxes to the crown after all.

But, even so, you need a central place for management of your economic empire. Or do you? Perhaps you may want to decentralize it and divide it into sections or regions or islands?

For my question, I'm assuming you have most dlcs, but even without them, how do you manage your empire? Do you have a central capital that acts as your "New York"/"London"/"Tokyo"/"Moscow" where most of your important people are, is the center of entertainment and attractiveness, and most of your end products (fur, steam engines, gold, ...) end up at or do you have a number of islands which you use as the final destination of end products and houses important people?

Bright Sands Is Now All Investors

    Posted: 13 Mar 2021 03:45 AM PST

So, tonight I managed to get Brights Sands up to investors only and finish sorting out supply chains.

I did need to spend some of that influence on trade unions, since I don't have that make spare engineers so needed things to save of workforce. Plus had to downgrade some of the investors on Ditchwater to have enough engineers.

I think I can fit more investors in on Brights Sands, maybe another 50 homes and I think I should have just enough engineers to cope with the increase in production, I think I have maybe 1300 spare.

This has actually be more stressful and tedious than fun, I think Crown Falls is going to be a mix of artisans, engineers and investors, maybe even scholars when I finally get to Land Of Lions DLC. I just don't see how I could do Crown Falls with all or mostly investors, I just don't see how my New World can possibly supply that many, even with Docklands. I know other people have managed it, but I am saying the way I play and enjoy the game I don't think I could even develop things enough to have such a huge investor island, Bright Sands has put me well off that.

    Building park maze impossible now?

    Posted: 13 Mar 2021 04:34 AM PST

So, after Ubisift changed the ornament mechanics that the promenades, walls etc. stitch to each other automatically and there is no option to pick the individual tiles manually, is it somehow possible to build a maze in a park, or is it completely impossible now? I had no luck trying :(

I high prefer Sci-fi setting over historical, which anno to start with?

    Posted: 13 Mar 2021 07:37 AM PST

Every thread I've read says the latest Anno 1800 is best. I also generally prefer newer games for better graphics and latest QoL stuff. But is it really that far ahead of the sci-fi games that I should just start with 1800 even though I prefer sci-fi?

Can someone explain how it compares to 2070 as I heard that 2070 is better than 2205? Is it actually that much better? I like in depth economics sims and dislike combat.

What does the Jack of all Traits trait do?

    Posted: 12 Mar 2021 05:38 PM PST

There are several specialist with Jack of all Traits trait. I've put one of them on the board of my Expeditioneer and did dozens of expeditions, and to my surprise I was never able to use it. Based on name, I've expected it to be able to activate any other trait, but it doesn't seem to work like that.

I've tried to on the internet what this trait can do, and all I found is that there was a specialist with this name that provided all traits and expedition bonuses, so it was doing similar thing to what I expected from this trait.

I even checked with Asset Viewer, and I couldn't find any expedition event that would have a special dialogue option for Jack of all Traits trait.

Was anyone able to figure out what is this trait for? Maybe it is only an easter egg?

Is it possible to play in a "survival" way?

    Posted: 13 Mar 2021 01:09 AM PST

With docklands out is it possible to play with only 1 island and still get all the goods you need versus a bunch of aggressive npcs. Sort of like a survival game where you have 1 base with a lot of defense and you try to get all the goods you need by trading?

Malching's Back-to-Back Itinerary for Serfs vs Papal Paper of Prenatal Preservation.

Is the Papal Paper of Prenatal Preservation bonus resident +3 part of the 30% increase?

Malching's Back-to-Back Itinerary for Serfs 50%, 20% more it seems.

World-Class Reefer is not affected by bonus speed from trade influence?

    Posted: 12 Mar 2021 05:20 PM PST

We can get up to 25% to movements of all trade ships by spending influence on trade-related things, yet World-Class Reefer seems to be unaffected. It does not make sense, as it is trading ship we get for trading a lot.

Information about bonus is not displayed on this ship. My World-Class Reefer have speed 11.0, which is equal to base movement ship according to this page on fandom. Maybe fixing this would make this ship travel noticeably faster between sessions than The Great Eastern with good items.

    Is this a common issue?

    Anno feels too socialist??

    Posted: 13 Mar 2021 06:28 AM PST

A new player here for Anno 1800, I have played port royale 2 before and the major difference I felt across was that workers don't buy goods from us in a free market. They just give us a fixed money because they are happy and that's it. There's no free market with dynamic pricing based on supply and demand. Also, there are only half a dozen people who interact in the market and that feels extremely suffocating sometimes. Comparing to port royale 2, where there's an absolutely free market with tons of AI traders and businesses, this feels shallow.

Anno obviously has a lot going for it with a more intricate supply chain, evolving worker classes, internal transport mechanics and items/people in trade unions and all. It also has a continuous world map, town and ship battle which are all separate in PR2. They're different games after all, but I do miss the free market the most.

Are there any other people who like the city building aspect but also wish for the free market aspect of the PR series with the larger world at hand? It'd be so fun to manipulate prices with multiple players in the world market and bankrupt people by undercutting them.

    Audio bug after new update?

Anyone else experience an audio bug after the update? The music distorts a lot, like there is some sort of interference.
